Saturday
Areas: Newfoundland
Timing: Saturday morning into the afternoon
Weather: Heavy rain with embedded storms that pushed into the region throughout the overnight hours will continue to advance and eventually reach the Avalon by early Saturday morning.
Heightened instability over north-central Newfoundland could allow for some of the storms to turn severe, packing the potential for strong wind gusts, small hail, and heavy rainfall.
The risk for severe storms stretches from Corner Brook to Bonavista and everywhere in between, including Gander, Badger, and Grand Falls-Windsor. Stay alert for warnings in the region on Saturday.
Folks across much of Newfoundland are likely to pick up about 20-30 mm of rain through Saturday, with higher totals along the southern coast and beneath thunderstorms. The Avalon is on track to see about 10-20 mm in the gauges by the time the system winds down Saturday.
