Heavy-scoring Carrington eyeing up a shock ahead of Scottish Open meeting with Trump

Playing Judd Trump is an opportunity to savour for Stuart Carrington as the Englishman gears up for the Scottish Open quarter-finals.

Trump has been on top form this season and won the last Home Nations event in Northern Ireland, beating Carrington en route to the title.

But the Grimsby cueman is no slouch and defeated the former UK champion at the same venue last year.

Reaching the last eight is therefore a match to remember for Carrington, keen to make the most of his good recent form that has seen him victorious in four matches so far in Glasgow.

“I was scoring really heavily in the first couple of frames of both matches, had a couple of sticky frames in the middle and then rounded them both off quite nicely,” he said.

“Judd played exceptional snooker last time we faced off, nobody on the planet would have beaten him that day and I scored about 20 points in four frames.

“He was outstanding, but this game is another day – you never know. Anything can happen and I’m playing well.

“I’ve got to make my chances, you get the opportunities and if you take them then you give yourself something to go for.

“It’s about doing it on the main stage against him, I’ll go out there and give it my all. I used to think it was a bit more daunting but you have to thrive in it, it’s a great occasion and I’ll look forward to it.”
