Heavy Snow Shuts Down Schools and Impacts Travel in Nova Scotia

Winter weather forced the closure of schools, transportation services, and businesses as snow fell across Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Wednesday, January 8, local media reported.

Environment Canada said Halifax was under a snowfall warning with a forecast of 20 to 30 cm (about 8 to 12 inches) of snow. The weather service said winds could reach up to 70 kmh (about 43 mph).

Several schools and universities throughout Halifax were closed in light of the weather, local media reported. Some flights at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, along with certain bus routes, were canceled or delayed on Wednesday.

Local media said crews were operating more than 200 snow-removing devices to clear roads in the area.
