Hegins Township fire claims two lives

May 22—HEGINS — A Saturday morning fire claimed the lives of two people in Hegins Township.

Fire broke out just before 10:30 a.m. at a double home on East Main Street and took more than two hours to bring under control.

Firefighters said two people were confirmed dead but their ages or other information was not available.

Schuylkill County deputy coroners Albert Barnes and John Mika arrived at the scene around 11 a.m. followed by state police marshal Trooper John F. Burns of the Frackville station.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters and EMS units from Schuylkill and Dauphin counties responded to the call that blocked East Main Street for several hours.
