Helicopter carrying 2 crashes in West Virginia

A non-military helicopter reportedly crashed in West Virginia on Friday, causing injuries to the two individuals onboard, who were subsequently air-lifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital where their condition is unknown at this time.

The helicopter crash-landed in Preston County, near Kingwood, according to MetroNews of West Virginia.

“A Bell 206B helicopter crashed near Veterans Memorial Highway ... around 11:40 a.m. local time on Friday, July 21. Two people were onboard,” confirmed the Federal Aviation Administration, who said their investigation is ongoing.

The West Virginia National Guard also tweeted that they were tracking reports of a downed helicopter near their training base at Camp Dawson, and said that it was not a military aircraft.

The crew inside the helicopter reportedly worked for GeoDigital, and were carrying out utility work contracted by FirstEnergy.

“The helicopter crew members involved in today’s accident were contracted by FirstEnergy to complete inspections of the company’s transmission lines,” said company spokesperson Hannah Catlett.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who were injured and their families,” she added.

This is a developing story, currently under investigation.
