Hello, high school football! We've missed you šŸˆ

The early morning practices are over.

Scrimmages and jamborees are now on highlight reels.

It's time for the high school football season.

Hi, I'm Tom Kreager, high school sports editor here at The Tennessean. This is your Daily Briefing.

Teams across Tennessee will play under the first Friday night lights of the TSSAA regular season today. It comes after months of offseason workouts and weeks of practice in helmets and pads.

I've watched this from a personal standpoint with a son entering his high school sophomore year and playing football at Rockvale High in Rutherford County.

The Tennessean has provided the best preseason coverage to get fans to this point of the season. We've told you who are the top players by position, as well as who are the top recruits in the Nashville area.

We've broken down each of the six classifications for the public, schools as well as the three classes of private schools that will play this season with a goal of a gold ball trophy.

We open the season with The Tennessean Game of the Week at Ravenwood where MBA plays the Raptors.

The game features two Power 5 quarterback commitments in MBA's Marcel Reed, an Ole Miss commitment, vs. Ravenwood's Chris Parson, a Mississippi State commitment. They make up the best Nashville-area college recruiting class at the quarterback position we've seen ā€” both are four-star athletes, along with Pope John Paul II's Kenny Minchey, a Pittsburgh commitment.
