Help The Hungry: Jack Whitehall launches homemade burger competition to raise money for our campaign
Comedian Jack Whitehall has endorsed The Independent’s Help The Hungry campaign and launched a competition to encourage his followers to donate.
The Bad Education star praised the “remarkable” food redistribution work of The Felix Project, The Independent’s campaign partner, and launched a competition on his food blog, foodSlut, with celebrity judges including Masterchef’s Greg Wallace and Candice Brown from The Great British Bake Off.
In a comment piece for The Independent, Whitehall and foodSlut co-founder Marcus Petty-Saphon, who are self-isolating together in London, explain that the Stay at Home Burger Battle is the result of the fact people are cooking more at home.
“People love sharing food pictures, especially when they’re on their own with nothing to do,” they said.
To enter the completion, people must take a picture of their homemade burger and upload it to the website. They must add a description of their meal, as well as proof that they have donated at least £5 to The Felix Project.
Prizes include Deliveroo vouchers worth £250, fresh ingredients from high-end butchers, and cases of locally brewed beer.
Burgers will be judged by a panel of food experts consisting of Greg Wallace, Candice Brown, The Mob Kitchen, Adam Richman from Man vs Food and Wycombe Wanderers football player Adebayo Akinfenwa.
All the money raised will go to The Felix Project.
