Help Kiwanis, Bucks County Opportunity Council meet their Give A Christmas goals

Wanted: Donors with deep pockets to help the Give A Christmas drive cross the finish line in good shape, having earned extra contributions from philanthropists Gene and Marlene Epstein.

The Epsteins pledged to donate $25,000 to the Bucks County Opportunity Council and another $25,000 to the Levittown-Bristol Kiwanis Club if they could each raise this year what they did last year for Give A Christmas, the charitable drive sponsored with the help of the Bucks County Courier Times and The Intelligencer.

In Central and Upper Bucks County, the Opportunity Council needs to raise approximately $31,000 to reach $175,000; in Lower Bucks, the Kiwanis need to raise another $20,000 to reach $113,372 and secure the additional $25,000 from the Epsteins.

The Epsteins' contributions are waiting in the wings as the service organizations check their mailboxes each day.

Mary Berman, who supervises the Kiwanis drive said the organization gave out almost 4,000 vouchers for Lower Bucks families with children and to seniors also in need this holiday season.

The Opportunity Council uses its donations throughout the year to help Bucks County's low-income residents weather financial storms caused when a car repair or unexpected medical bill hits their already tight budgets. The Keystone Opportunity Center in Souderton also is a partner in the drive and benefits from the donations.

If you have already donated to the drive, please accept the thanks of the BCOC, the Kiwanis and The Intelligencer and Bucks County Courier Times which have been co-sponsoring the Give A Christmas drive for years and have seen it raise millions in funds to help local families.

If you haven't donated as yet, please make a contribution, and ask your employer if they would consider pitching in as well. It's for a good cause and the neighborly thing to do to help others in Bucks County, and could help the organizations earn that extra $50,000 if they can match last year's donations.
