Need help with your taxes? Here are 8 places in Newport County lending a hand

The AARP Tax Aide program will again be offering free tax preparation help at eight sites in Newport County, beginning at some sites on Feb. 1. It is not necessary to be an AARP member to use these services. Help is free to low and moderate-income people of all ages.

The AARP Tax Aide program is the nation's largest free tax preparation service. All tax preparers pass an IRS certification test each year. Counselors are qualified to handle most common IRS schedules and forms. RI and some other state forms can also be prepared. Complex returns should be taken to paid preparers. All returns will be electronically filed for fast refund.

Due to Covid restrictions, in-person contact is limited, with most sites requiring appointments and drop off of tax information. Masks are required. Limited walk-ins are allowed in Middletown. Pre-appointment packets are available at some sites. Please pick up and complete the packet before your appointment.
