United Way of Northwest Louisiana is teaming up with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to provide a brand-new book club to kids in the area.

According to the United Way of Northwest Louisiana, Shreveport's 71103 is one of the poorest zip codes in the region whose families are struggling, and the kids are without access to books.

Currently, any child under five-years-old living in Desoto, Natchitoches, Sabine, Red River and Webster Parishes can participate. Additional funding is needed to enroll all children in Caddo, Bossier, Bienville and Claiborne Parishes.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has been dedicated to inspiring a love of reading since its inception in 1995 and today over 1 million free books get delivered to children in five countries every month.

"When I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true," Parton writes on the Imagination Library website. "I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an inventor a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and a singer. The seeds of these dreams are often found in books and the seeds you help plant in your community can grow across the world."

You can support this new book club by becoming a United Way Book Club member or a United Way Book Club sponsor to help kids in the area have access to books all year delivered straight to their homes.
