Helping Hands Pregnancy Resource Center pays off mortgage

After a banner year for the ministry, Helping Hands PRC decided to finish the year strong by launching a campaign to pay off the mortgage. Although this was an ambitious goal for the small non-profit, the board and the director thought that now was the time to act.

“We expected God to bring the money that we needed by the end of the year,” said executive director Bryce Asberg, “We just did not think He would do it in a single day.”

Helping Hands built the campaign around the Great Give, organized by the Hillsdale County Community Foundation (HCCF) on Giving Tuesday, hoping to make significant progress toward their goal. But by the time the day was over, once they added up pre-giving and incentives from HCCF, they had raised $54,200. Overall, more than 130 donors contributed to the campaign to pay off the mortgage.

Asberg immediately called Bud Vear, who along with his wife Gloria, had been instrumental in starting Helping Hands. Gloria had longed to see the mortgage paid off before she passed away, and although this did not happen, many supporters contributed toward the campaign in honor of her.

“I’m still pinching myself,” said Vear on Wednesday as he and Asberg walked into the bank to hand over the last mortgage payment. This successful campaign frees Helping Hands to keep serving the community for years to come.

Helping Hands exists to equip women and men to make life-affirming decisions about pregnancy, parenting, and sexuality through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Founded in 1986 and previously operating under the name Alpha Omega Care Center, Helping Hands has a long history of faithfully serving the communities of Hillsdale County.
