Henderson County Public Schools recognizes 60 Career & Technical Education Scholars
HENDERSONVILLE — The 24th Career & Technical Education Scholars’ Reception sponsored by Pardee UNC Health Care recognized 60 graduating CTE students Wednesday for their academic mastery in Career & Technical Education courses.
Each scholar is a CTE Concentrator as defined by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, having earned two or more technical credits in a Career Cluster Pathway, at least one of which is a completer course. Additionally, each CTE Scholar maintained a 3.25 GPA in CTE courses and an overall 3.0 GPA, and received three teacher recommendations for the honor.
The CTE Scholars also currently participate as active members of their related CTE student organizations, including Future Business Leaders of America; Family, Career, Community Leaders of America; Future Farmers of America; Health Occupations Students of America; Distributive Education Clubs of America; SkillsUSA; and the Technology Student Association.
“Students earning this CTE Scholar designation have separated themselves by committing to a pathway within their chosen field of study, exhibiting sustained academic success and gaining valuable experiences in vital leadership and employment skills through their involvement in one of our Career and Technical Education student organizations,” said Scott Moore, HCPS Director of Middle Schools / Career & Technical Education.
“Future employers seeing this accomplishment on a resume can have confidence that these students are well-equipped to enter the workplace,” said Moore. “Henderson County Public Schools has historically placed a premium on preparation for life after graduation, and the CTE Scholars Recognition is another way that these students can demonstrate their preparedness, whether that means entering the workforce or continuing with higher education.”
In 2021, CTE students – many of whom are this year’s CTE Scholars – earned a total of 992 credentials, including: Certified Nursing Assistant, CPR, Fire Safety, and First Aid certifications, W!SE Financial Literacy certifications, and credentials earned through Microsoft, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, the National Center for Construction Education and Research, ServSafe National Restaurant Association, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
