Suspect sought after elderly man found dead, woman injured in robbery turned shooting at Lake Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Henderson police are searching for a suspect after an elderly man was found dead and a woman was injured in a shooting that may have started out as a robbery.
It took place on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 10:10 p.m. near Lake Las Vegas in Henderson.
Police and fire departments were called to a home off Via Visione in reference to a person reporting that she and her boyfriend had been shot.
When officers arrived at the residence they discovered a 77-year-old man dead and a 70-year-old woman injured from a gunshot wound to her upper extremity.
The man who was found dead was shot in the head, according to Henderson police dispatch recordings obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators.
A man with a shirt reading “Robbery Homicide,” up the hill from the crime scene in a parked SUV, refused comment and drove away when pressed with questions by an 8 News Now reporter. He referred the inquiries to Henderson’s public information office, who had previously provided a scant, nine-sentence press release approximately 18 hours after the shootings.
Neighbors also refused to answer questions when asked, but the 8 News Now Investigators obtained a text message thread indicating they saw a “large police presence” Thursday night, that “four shots were fired,” saying it’s like a “scary movie,” and that the victim “did not deserve to die this way.”
The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, police said.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the man once they have notified the next of kin.
The investigation remains open and no further details will be released at this time, police stated.
The shooting is the ninth homicide for the City of Henderson in 2023.
