HENDERSON, Ky. — There were 85 new cases of COVID-19 for Henderson County in the Green River District Health Department’s numbers released Friday, with 521 new cases and five new deaths in the district overall.

The deaths included four residents of Daviess County and one from Ohio County. Daviess, the most populous of the seven-county district, had nearly half of the district's cases with 249. Ohio County had 50, Union 40, Hancock 38, McLean 31 and Webster 28.

On Tuesday, there were 585 new cases and four deaths reported. The seven-day average for new cases in the district is now 114.4 per day, a substantial increase from Tuesday's figure of 83.4. The new cases were investigated in a three-day span from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.

All seven counties in the district are once again marked as "red" by the Kentucky Department for Public Health, indicating they are areas of high transmission.

"We are again seeing rising incidence rates of COVID-19,” said Clay Horton, GRDHD Public Health Director. “The best way to protect yourself and those you love is to get vaccinated against COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and highly effective. Wearing a mask when in public or around people you don’t live with is an effective way to reduce spread. If you are not yet vaccinated, go get vaccinated today. If you must be in indoor public spaces, wear a mask.”

There have been 39,457 cases of COVID-19 in the district to date, with 642 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. Kentucky reports 792,015 cases and 11,027 deaths statewide.
