Hendersonville 2023 business plans: Martin's Bar-B-Que site change, 9 others move ahead

Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint no longer plans to open a new location in the former Black-eyed Pea location in Hendersonville, but the brand is still actively looking to identify another location in the city.

A site plan on behalf of Martin’s Bar-B-Que to renovate the former Black-eyed Pea location at 164 E. Main St. was approved, according to the city. But a statement from Martin’s Bar-B-Que representatives included that the former Black-eye-Pea location “is no longer a fit for the brand.”

There is no timeline on when a new space in Hendersonville may be identified. Martin’s Bar-B-Que has 10 locations now open that include seven in Middle Tennessee.

Drakes Creek Holdings, connected to Southeastern Building Corporation and Southeastern Commercial Properties, is listed as the property owner of the former Black-eyed Pea location.

Several other Hendersonville commercial building projects are moving forward though many have experienced delays of some sort that have pushed back projected openings. They include:

Half Batch Brewing: Construction on a new building at 154 Bonita Parkway is ongoing and hopes are now to open a new 11,000 square foot building in May.

The building space and tap room will be three times larger than the present space at 393 E. Main St., just a few hundred feet away. The new location will also add an outdoor beer garden, Half-Batch Brewing owner and founder Nathan Newton said.

Scooter’s Coffee: A future drive-thru kiosk will be built at 59 Caudill Drive in Hendersonville. Plans are to open in early 2023, franchise owner Tim Horn said.

Horn also owns a Scooter’s Coffee franchise being built in Mt. Juliet. Horn plans five franchises in the Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet and Hermitage regions.

The building is approved for approximately 660 square feet, according to planning documents. Scooter’s Coffee offers a variety of coffees, smoothies and blenders.

RallyPoint Motor Condos: Groundbreaking to build 31 condominiums for classic and antique vehicles, boats and recreational vehicles was pushed back, but is now expected in the first quarter of 2023.

The site is at 752 E. Main St., just west of Hendersonville Produce. Construction is projected to take around 13 months according to Carol Ernst, co-owner with husband J.R. Ernst.

Raising Cane’s: The Baton Rouge, Louisiana based restaurant chain known for chicken fingers will replace Rio Bravo on East Main.

Rio Bravo is expected to move out by Feb. 1, according to property owner Ralph Lynn. Demolition of the present building would likely begin in February with construction to begin sometime after. Raising Cane’s will build a new 2,843-square-foot restaurant that will include a drive-thru with double-lane stacking, according to plans submitted to the city.

PetSuites of America: A plan to build an approximate 11,000 square foot building on New Shackle Road at the corner of Innovation Way is approved. A timeline on the project wasn’t immediately known.

CheerVille: The cheer and tumble training facility will move its Hendersonville location from Rockland Road to a new buildng on Bonita Parkway. Opening is expected mid-2023, CheerVille Director of Marketing Jake Kearney said.

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream: Nicole Fedorchek plans to open a Hendersonville franchise in a new building on Anderson Lane North near Lowe’s. The interior is complete with parking still to be finished at deadline for this story. Opening is estimated by Feb. 1, Fedorchek said.

Cajun Steamer Bar & Grill: The restaurant will be part of a new commercial center at 185 Indian Lake Blvd., estimated to open in the first quarter of 2023.

Costco: A plan to build a new Costco store near TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center off New Shackle Island and Forest Retreat is approved.

Costco declined comment on when a new store will open. But Costco representatives are working with the city and with required permitting, according to Hendersonville Public Information Officer Casey LaMarr.
