Hendersonville church reopens after being vandalized

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – This weekend, the Luna Lane Church of Christ is having somewhat of a rebirth of their own this Easter.

Just eight weeks ago, the parish was forced to close its doors after it had been vandalized. However, they scheduled their grand reopening Saturday, March 30 just in time for Easter.

During the first week of February, church elders showed News 2 part of the thousands of dollars worth of damage its parish had sustained. They did have a Sunday where they had to remain completely closed due to hazards, such as debris from a fire extinguisher that had been sprayed throughout the church.

However, several weeks and lots of donations later, some even from strangers, the church is working to thank their community.

“The outpouring of people for this little church has been amazing and it gives you hope that there’s still a lot of good,” preacher Nick Raphael said.

The Hendersonville Police Department said no suspects have been arrested, but they are pursuing strong leads.

The church told News 2 they have grown stronger as a result of this and now have a completely renovated area to worship in.

“We can’t possibly not forgive someone because we know we have things that we need to be forgiven for as well, and if that could possibly change someone’s heart – who might do something like this, be driven to something like this – then we’ve done our job and we will continue praying for whoever this perpetrator or perpetrators were,” church elder Mark Brown said.

Church leaders also said this experience has caused them to update some of their technology, including their security system. They have some elements of the system installed, but will have a more advanced system installed in the coming weeks.

Anyone from the general public is invited to attend their Easter service that will be held Sunday, March 31 at 10 a.m.
