Henry Brummel tosses no-hitter as Pontiac shuts out Rantoul; Lexington tops EPG

RANTOUL — Henry Brummel allowed no hits and one walk in pitching the Indians to a 10-0 victory over host Rantoul in Illini Prairie Conference baseball Monday.

Brummel struck out 13 in registering his no-hitter as the Indians improved to 3-5.

Brummel was able to work from a comfortable position after his mates gave him a four-run lead before he got the ball on the bump. All the PTHS scoring in the first came with two outs.

Logan Barnett singled home Colin Gould for the first tally and Brummel helped his cause with a triple that scored Barnett. Parker Francis followed with a single to drive in courtesy runner Nolan Verdun and Dakoda Ackerman made it four straight hits with a single. Verdin scored on an error on the play to make it 4-0.

Alex Trevino led off the PTHS second with a base hit and later scored on a passed ball. Trevino reached on an error that allowed two runs to score in the third inning.

Johnny Lenox led off the Pontiac fourth with a single and scored when Gould followed with a double. Gould crossed the plate when Barnett followed with a two-bagger to make it 9-0. Barnett later scored on a wild pitch for the final difference.

Lenox had three hits as Pontiac collected 11 safeties. Barnett had a double, single and two rune batted in and Gould had a double, single and one RBI. Brummel had a triple and drove in a run and Francis had a hit and RBI. Ackerman and Trevino each singled.

BCC 11, Prairie Central 3

BLOOMINGTON — Prairie Central got off to a fast start but was unable to sustain the momentum as Central Catholic rallied for an 11-3 Illini Prairie Conference baseball victory Monday at McGraw Park.

The Hawks tallied three runs in the top of the first inning when Owen Rafferty tripled home Jack Schahrer and Camden Palmore. Rafferty scored when Evan Hartman reached on an error.

Central Catholic got to PC starter Hartman for three runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game. A four-run third put the Saints ahead. A run ion the fifth inning and three in the sixth ended the BCC scoring.

Rafferty had a triple, single and two runs batted in for the Hawks (1-7). Clayton Bahler had a double and single while Hartman also had two hits. Schahrer and Seth Rigsby each had one hit.

Hartman took the loss after giving up seven runs (three earned), nine hits and five walks in four innings. He struck out three. Caden Addis allowed three runs, two hits and two walks while fanning one in an inning. Carson Friedman gave up a run, two hits and struck out three.

Lexington 12, EPG 2

LEXINGTON — Lexington was able to bookend five-run innings in a 12-2 Heart of Illinois Conference baseball win over El Paso-Gridley at Kellar Park Monday.

Nolan Bowles provided the big blow for the Minutemen in a five-run first inning. Bowles belted a three-run homer for a 3-0 advantage. It came after a walk and hit batsman. Wildness was a problem for EPG as five of the first six batters reached base either by walk or bit by pitch.

Michael Olson reached on an error that allowed two runs to score for a 5-0 lead.

Hayden Sennett had a run-scoring single and Tanner Laesch drove in a run with a double as Lexington's lead grew to 7-0 after four innings.

The Titans got those runs back in the top of the fifth. Mac Raymer reached on an error that allowed Dominic Ricconi to score. Raymer later scored on an error.

Lexington ended the game with a five-run fifth. Olson tripled in a run and scored on an error on the play for a 9-2 lead. Sennett had a two-run single and then scored the game-ending run three batters later when Jaxson Goodrich walked with the bases loaded.

Sennett had two hits and drove in three runs while Laesch had a pair of doubles and a run batted in for the Minutemen (4-4). Bowles homered and drove in three runs and Olson had a triple and three RBIs. Camden Hardman had two hits and Goodrich drove in a run.

Bowles got the win with a seven-strikeout effort. He gave up just one hit and two unearned runs.

Jacob Castleman took the loss after giving up five runs, three walks and a hit in a third of an inning for El Paso-Gridley (5-3). He struck out one. Landon Foster allowed two runs, three hits and fanned eight. Will McNamara struck out one and allowed five runs, two hits and four walks.

Foster had the lone EPG base hit.
