Herald-Mail Student of the Week: See this week's winner

Jenna Wells has been chosen as The Herald-Mail Student of the Week.

Jenna, a junior at Hancock Middle Senior High School, was one of seven nominees submitted by local high schools and received the most votes cast online.

Jenna's nomination noted her remarkable dedication to academics, extracurricular activities and work commitments.

Despite juggling a part-time job and sports, she has maintained a high GPA. Jenna has taken on the challenge of a college-level math class, which demands extensive independent study, individual responsibility and perseverance.

Throughout, she has demonstrated her eagerness and persistent positive attitude.

Next week's poll

Local school administrators have nominated students who have shown outstanding academic and school achievements for the next round of Student of the Week voting.

Our next poll will publish on Monday, Feb. 26, with a new list of nominees. Voting will be open through noon, Thursday, Feb. 29, on our website.

We will announce the winner at heraldmailmedia.com on Friday, March 1, and in The Herald- Mail on Sunday, March 3.

A look at the other nominees for The Herald-Mail Student of the Week

Vicille Sesay, Williamsport High School: Vicille, a junior, has positive relationships with students and staff. He is focused on pursuing a post-secondary degree and playing a sport in college. He has gotten a jump-start on college credits, being on track to earn credits in psychology and English. Vicille has a 3.0 GPA and continues to show growth since his freshman year. He is still deciding his college major, but has completed coursework in computer science, chemistry, and construction and design.

Dustin Littles, South Hagerstown High School: Dustin, a junior, is a great student who displays good citizenship. He is an all-around good kid and great athlete. Dustin has his own lawn care and snow removal business.

Olivia Gorman, Boonsboro High School: Olivia, a junior, is a member of the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, the Student Government Association, the Spanish National Honors Society and the National Honors Society. Olivia is prom chair and captain of the varsity cheer team. She is enrolled in numerous Advanced Placement courses.

Noah Galvin, St. Maria Goretti High School: Noah, a junior, has a 4.17 weighted GPA. He has been in distinguished honors every year. Freshman year, he participated in the Academic Competition for Excellence at Spring Mills High School. Noah has won several awards for his essays. He is a member of the National Honor Society. Noah is an Airman 1st Class in the Civil Air Patrol. This year, he is playing Grimsby in Goretti's performance of "The Little Mermaid." His hobbies include fishing and playing video games. In college, Noah plans to study aerospace engineering, specializing in astronautical engineering.

Claire Bono, Smithsburg High School: Claire, a freshman, has remarkable maturity for her young age. Her skills in academics and sports are certainly notable, but more importantly she is an essential part of our school community. It is Claire's approachable and cheery nature accompanied by her leadership skills which make her stand out. Claire is a member of the girls basketball team and has been a great addition to the varsity program as a freshman.

Aubert Ganza, Global Vision Christian School Broadfording: Aubert, a senior, is a student intern for the school superintendent. In this role, he has overseen numerous projects under the superintendent's guidance.  Additionally, Aubert has demonstrated qualities of leadership and service by coordinating the school's video announcements and by handling the sound/tech responsibilities for various chapel services. Aubert is a member of the student council.
