Herald's Tom Miller named North Dakota sportswriter of the year

Jan. 9—GRAND FORKS — Tom Miller of the Grand Forks Herald is the North Dakota sportswriter of the year. It's the second time Miller has received the honor from the National Sports Media Association. He also won the award in 2019.

Miller has been a sportswriter at the Herald since 2004. He covers UND football, UND basketball and prep sports among other duties.

Also, Miller received the state sportswriter of the year award from the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Luke Gamble of KFYR-TV in Bismarck is the NSMA sportscaster of the year in North Dakota. And Craig Keating of KMAV in Mayville won the NDAPSSA state sportscaster of the year honors.

Miller, along with other state and national winners along with Hall of Fame inductees, will be honored by the NSMA during the organization's 63rd awards weekend and national convention, scheduled for June 24-26, 2023, in Winston-Salem, N.C.

ESPN GameDay mainstay Lee Corso and Los Angeles Times sports columnist Bill Plaschke are among four elected to the NSMA Hall of Fame. Corso and Plaschke will be joined by two posthumous electees, legendary hockey announcer Dan Kelly and essayist Roger Angell.

CBS Sports' Ian Eagle has been elected as the 2022 national sportscaster of the year. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic and Pete Thamel of ESPN.com are the 2022 co-national sportswriters of the year.

Herald sportswriters have won the NSMA award 11 times since 2000.
