Here's who is on the ballot for the general election in Saline County

Now that early, in-office voting has begun in Saline County, just who, and what, will citizens be voting for in the 2022 general election?

Here's a look at the people and items on the ballot in Saline County.

Federal offices

As terms last two years, this year's midterm election will see all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives up for re-election, including Kansas's Big 1st Congressional District, which comprises all of Saline County in addition to portions or all of 64 counties in the state.

People in the Big 1st will select from one of two candidates to represent them in the U.S. House. Republican Tracey Mann, the incumbent, who resides in Salina, is facing a challenge by Democrat and Garden City resident James "Jimmy" Beard for the spot.

Also up this election is one of the two U.S. Senate seats for Kansas. with incumbent and Republican Jerry Moran facing challenges by Democrat Mark Holland and Libertarian David Graham.

Statewide offices

Five offices representing all of Kansas at the state level are also up for election this year.

The Kansas Governor's race sees incumbent and Democrat Laura Kelly facing three opponents, Republican Derek Schmidt, Libertarian Seth Cordell and an independent race run by Dennis Pyle.

For Kansas Secretary of State, incumbent and Republican Scott Schwab faces challenges by Democrat Jeanna Repass and Libertarian Cullene Lang.

Kansas is guaranteed to have a new State Attorney General, with incumbent Schmidt turning his eyes to Cedar Crest and the governor's seat. Two candidates are vying for the chance to replace him, with Democrat Chris Mann facing off against Republican Kris Kobach.

The position of State Treasurer comprises three different candidates, with Democrat Lynn Rogers the incumbent facing Republican Steven Johnson and Libertarian Steve Rogers.

Finally, for Kansas Insurance Commissioner, Republican and incumbent Vicky Schmidt is up against her Democratic opponent, Kiel Corkran.

One state house race up for grabs in Saline County

While the county is represented by three members of the Kansas State House of Representatives, only one of these seats has more than one candidate running, the 69th, encompassing much of the western half of the City of Salina and most of the northwest portion of Saline County.

Republican and incumbent Clarke Sanders faces a challenge in the 69th District from Democrat Sarah Crews.

Constitutional amendments on the ballot as well

In addition to the various positions up in this general election, there are two questions regarding possible amendments to the Kansas Constitution. One of these amendments regards the state legislature being authorized to revoke or suspend rules and regulations of the state executive branch. The other amendment deals with the election and recalling of county sheriffs in the state.

Voting open now

In-office voting began Monday and is open Mondays to Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Nov. 4 at the Saline County Clerk's Office in the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash St.

The office will also be open for advanced voting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 and from 8 a.m. to noon the day before the election, Monday, Nov. 7.

Voters do not need a special reason or permission to vote in advance, however the county said a government-issued identification is required to do so.

The last day to apply for an advance ballot by mail in Saline County is Nov. 1 and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 8. People can find their polling place by visiting Voter View online at myvoteinfo.voteks.org/VoterView and inputting their address.
