VP Harris meets with 'Tennessee Three'

Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday praised three Tennessee Democratic lawmakers – Reps. Justin Jones of Nashville, Justin Pearson of Memphis and Gloria Johnson of Knoxville – who staged a protest in favor of gun control on the statehouse floor in an act of defiance that led angry Republicans to expel two of them from the General Assembly. “That is not a democracy,” Harris said. In a democracy, she said, "you don’t silence the people, you do not stifle the people, you do not turn off their microphones when they are speaking about the importance of life and liberty."

Vice President Kamala Harris speaks at Fisk University on Friday, April 7, 2023, about the expulsion of Justin Jones and Justin Pearson from the Tennessee House of Representatives the day before. Gloria Johnson, D-Knoxville, survived an effort to expel her.

Senior administration officials called the leaks worrisome and said it could be an extremist who sympathizes with Russia and Vladimir Putin, an ideologue bent on changing the course of the war, or a disloyal U.S. spy.

President Biden's visit to Ireland:  'Blue-collar Joe' back home

Next week, Biden will make his first presidential trip to Ireland for a four-day swing, stopping first in Belfast to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement that ended civil war in Northern Ireland, before revisiting where his ancestors lived in Ireland. Yet the trip is also a way for Biden to connect with voters at home, allowing him to reintroduce his Irish-American roots – and lean into his economic message of "dignity" – as he works to win back working-class voters who have fled the Democratic Party.
