The latest "droughtlander" has felt particularly grueling for Outlander fans, but the wait for new Fraser family content is almost over. Everybody's favorite sexy time travel drama will return to Starz in early 2022—and in the meantime, here's a brand new image to feast your eyes on.

Released on the official Outlander Twitter feed, the behind-the-scenes photograph features Sophie Skelton's Sophie and Richard Rankin's Roger, in what looks like an intense scene outside their home in North Carolina.

The account shared the tweet alongside the funny caption: "Now they understood the Met Gala theme." That's a reference both to this year's "American Independence" theme at the Met Gala, and to the 1775 War of Independence, which will loom large in the new season.

Season 6 of Outlander will be loosely based on the sixth book in Diana Gabaldon's series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Following Claire's harrowing abduction in the season 5 finale, the new season will focus heavily on her ongoing journey of recovery. And though season 6 will unfortunately have a shortened run of just eight episodes, the show has already been renewed for season 7, which will run for a bumper-length sixteen episodes.

“Filming in 2021 has presented an unprecedented set of challenges which led us to the decision to truncate the season in order to bring the fans the most vibrant and dynamic season as soon as possible,” showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said in an official statement. And on the plus side, the shortened season does come with a feature-length premiere, which fans can expect to see sometime in early 2022.
