Here's what Brewster Place's luxury suites The Five at Redwood will look like

Brewster Place is celebrating its 60th anniversary by starting construction of new suites in a luxury high-rise project.

The faith-based, nonprofit organization first broke ground for the Redwood Suites on Dec. 2, 1962. It provides living arrangements that include catered living, assisted living and three memory support neighborhoods.

The $14 million renovation will add a sixth floor — the Penthouse Suites — with six two-bed and two-bath apartments. The building's fifth-floor suites will be renovated and renamed The Fives at Redwood, which will offer one- and two-bedroom apartments.

The Club at Redwood, the entry of the building, will be renovated to provide Brewster residents with a new dining venue, game area and art studio.

The project is expected to be completed by March 2024, said Matthew Burns, Brewster Place CEO. Construction will begin Dec. 12.

"What we see residents wanting when they come to a place like Brewster Place is they want larger, luxury apartments," Burns said. "They're not interested in downsizing."

Residents who currently reside on the fifth floor have been relocated to the second, third and fourth floors.

Burns said he and other Brewster leaders tried to ensure The Fives at Redwood would complement the other residential buildings across the Brewster Place campus.

"Our residents deserve that," he said. "They invest their money and their lives here, and we need to provide those things for them. We're happy that we can."

Three have signed contracts to move into the Redwood, said Chris Gallagher-Sneden, director of sales and marketing, and another is expected to sign a contract before Christmas.

"We have a waiting list of about eight people who we will visit with and give them more information," Gallagher-Sneden said.

The new build and renovations will give the suites a modern-glam look with elevated ceilings, full amenities, new balconies and more.

A "sky-breaking" ceremony was Friday at the Rosewood on Friday for residents and city officials to commemorate the new build.

Brewster Place currently offers 240 independent and catered living homes; 28 assisted living homes; 79 beds in Brewster Health Center, a skilled nursing facility; and the David Beck Rehab Center for post-acute rehabilitation.

Brewster Place has 364 employees with an annual payroll of $12 million.
