Here's how downtown Phoenix has changed since it last hosted the World Series

The city of Phoenix along with its downtown has changed a lot since it last hosted a World Series game in 2001. Here are some of the additions the city has seen over the last 22 years:

  • Arizona Financial Theater: Multi-use theater that opened in 2002.

  • Arizona State University Downtown Campus: ASU campus hosting its journalism, nursing and criminal justice programs opened in 2006.

  • Bioscience High School: Public secondary school that opened in 2007.

  • Block 23: Downtown mixed-use high rise completed in 2019.

  • CityScape: Downtown shopping district that fully completed construction in 2012.

  • Civic Space Park: Urban park that opened in 2009.

  • Japanese Friendship Garden: Japanese stroll garden with tea house that opened in 2002.

  • Phoenix Children’s Museum: Renovated and opened in 2008.

  • Phoenix Convention Center (formally known as Civic Plaza)/ Symphony Hall: Renovations took place in 2009 to connect the two facilities

  • Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel: Built in 2007 and opened in 2008.

  • Thunderbird School of Global Management: Opened in 2021.

  • UA College of Medicine and Phoenix Bioscience Core: Opened in 2007.

  • Valley Metro Light Rail: Public transit system that opened in 2008 and has since expanded further throughout the Valley.

  • Westin/Freeport McMoRan: Upscale hotel that opened in 2011.
