Earlier this year Richard Branson’s foray into cruise ship travel, Virgin Voyages, opened bookings for its first ship, the Scarlet Lady. Starting in April 2020, the 2,700-passenger vessel will be launching Caribbean excursions from Miami, with trips as short as three days and as long as a week. And now the company has unveiled its second ship, which will debut a year later in 2021, launching in Barcelona, Spain, for week-long itineraries through the Mediterranean. Her name? The Valiant Lady.

Virgin Voyages has positioned itself as the adults-only alternative to the typical cruise ship, which is often teeming with poorly supervised kids. Virgin Voyages, by contrast, touts its “adult-by-design” ethos, inviting well-known boutique hotel designers to outfit its vessels specifically with the 18-and-over traveler in mind.

Its new itineraries fit that philosophy, with every journey including a Friday night stopover on the island of Ibiza. Known for its pristine beaches and top-notch nightlife, Ibiza is very much on-brand; it’s not the kind of place that screams “kid friendly.”

While Ibiza is included on every trip with the Valiant Lady, three different itineraries give passengers plenty of options for exploring the Mediterranean. Starting in Barcelona, you can journey on to Ibiza for you island partying, then off to Monte Carlo, Marseille, and Olbia. Or focus on Spain, hitting Palma de Mallorca and Malaga (along with Barcelona and Ibiza), then arrive at the British port of Gibraltar. Or get a full taste of the Med in Barcelona, Ibiza, Toulon, Ajaccio, Marina di Carrara, and Cagliari.

Whatever exotic locales you choose to visit, you have some time to make your plans. Virgin Voyages will open bookings in December 2019, which trips starting in May 2021.
