Here's the food news you need to know heading into Memorial Day weekend 🍦🍄🍩
Hello, Spartanburg foodies!
As you head into what will hopefully be a fun holiday weekend, here's what you need to know about this week in food news and the week ahead:
The Dunkin’ Donuts they've been building at 1451 W.O. Ezell Blvd. is opening next Wednesday and offering some great deals and a family-friendly block party with bounce houses to celebrate.
The first 100 customers, specifically the first 50 in the drive-thru and first 50 through the lobby, will win one month of free donuts and coffee. The shop is opening at 5 a.m. on June 1 so if you're going to try for it, be sure to set an alarm. They'll also be offering 99 cent medium coffees, hot or iced, through June 7.
For the weekend
If you're looking for a cold treat this weekend — whether it's a waffle cone, milkshake, or shaved ice — my list of frozen treat spots in Spartanburg County should help locate something unique. I included shops in downtown Spartanburg, Duncan, Moore, Woodruff, Inman, Chesnee, Campobello and one dessert truck, so hopefully there's a spot on the list near you!

And if you're heading to Hub City Farmer's Market this weekend, my story on The Mane Mushroom is for you. This new family-owned urban farm — run in a corporate park office — will have several varieties of Spartanburg-grown mushrooms for you try. They start at $5 for a 1/4 pound.
This was such a fun story to write and it includes plenty of visual extras (a 17 photo gallery and video of a "day in the life" of a mushroom farmer) so be sure to check it out!

Cross-county feature
Most of my week was spent working on this chef feature (or should I say chefs feature?) that went live this morning.
Three executive chefs in Rick Erwin's restaurant group talked about their friendship and the opportunity for creativity that brought them here from South Florida.

One of the more interesting topics we discussed was the balance they have to find as chefs between providing customers with a delicious, inspired meal and managing kitchen costs as ingredient prices rise. Be sure to give it a read if you haven't yet!
Until next week,
Eat well, friends!
