Looking for fireworks, parades or other Fourth of July holiday events? You have plenty of choices.

The night sky across Northeast Ohio will be lit up by the rockets’ red glare practically nightly as communities mark the Fourth of July starting this weekend.

Perhaps one of the more notable of the Independence Day events in the area is returning this year: the Rib, White and Blue Festival in downtown Akron. The Fourth of July celebration was canceled last year following the fatal shooting of Jayland Walker by Akron police on June 27.

Here is a listing of some of the celebrations happening across the region.

June 24

Green: FreedomFest, noon-11 p.m., Boettler Park, 5300 Massillon Road. Free admission and parking available at Boettler Park and at various parking lots along International Parkway. Handicap parking will be available at Boettler Park. Activities and games, food vendors, live music. Fireworks at 10:15 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks show may be postponed. Rain date for fireworks only is Sunday, June 25. Check out the City of Green’s Facebook page for updates.

June 30-July 4

Akron: Rib, White and Blue Festival. Free admission in downtown Akron. Events are planned for 11 a.m.-11 p.m. at Lock 3 park, and will feature national and local rib vendors competing for best ribs, best sauce and people's choice award. Food includes ribs, pulled pork, chicken, corn and a variety of fair food. No outside food is permitted, except drinks purchased from downtown bars included in the designated outdoor refreshment area.

Parking at city of Akron decks, including State Street and Cascade parking decks, will be free until midnight July 3. On Monday, July 3, regular rates will apply and there will be free parking again on July 4. Motorcycle parking is available on Quaker Street; enter from Ash Street.

4th of July in Akron: Akron announces return of Rib, White and Blue Festival for Fourth of July celebrations

There will be free nightly concerts on the Lock 3, Cleveland Clinic Stage located on West Bowery Street, next to The Akron Civic Theatre. Concerts begin at 7 p.m. The lineup includes: June 30, Draw The Line, a tribute to Aerosmith with Lady Lyre. July 1, Straight On, a tribute to Heart with Angie Haze Project. July 2, EU (Experience Unlimited) with Akron’s Real Deal. July 3, Hotel California, a tribute to the Eagles with the TwistOffs. July 4, Wanted, a tribute to Bon Jovi with Wishgarden.

Also, Patterson Park Sports Complex, 9:45 p.m. and Akron Executive Airport, 9:45 p.m. Downtown Lock 3 fireworks will begin at the end of the RubberDucks game at about 9:45 p.m. Tune in to 97.5 FM-WONE for updates on start time and to listen to patriotic soundtrack.

Stow: Set up a lawn chair on June 30 at the Stow City Center Campus, 3870 Darrow Road, and enjoy some music. As part of the city's Concerts on the Green Series, Disco Express will be performing the disco hits of the 70's from 6:00 p.m. - 8 p.m. The event is free. Attendees can enjoy refreshments from a number of food trucks, and play yard games during the show. This event has been postponed due to air quality concerns.

July 1

Akron: Summit Lake Birthday Bash, Summit Lake Nature Center, 411 Ira Ave., 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Celebrating the opening anniversary of the Summit Lake Nature Center with themed crafts, animal encounters, snacks and more.  After the successful pilot of a pop-up nature center inside the Reach Opportunity Center at Summit Lake, Summit Metro Parks has established a permanent nature center inside the former Pump House building.

Kent: 28th Annual Heritage Festival, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., North Water and West Main streets. Classic car show, children's activities including Safety Town and games, live entertainment and music on two stages. Jaycees Ducks Down the River, food trucks, downtown restaurants, Haymaker Farmers' Market, breweries, coffee shops, art galleries and retail shops. Fireworks at dark.

Stow: Celebrate Stow Spalsh Bash, 1:00 p.m. - 4 p.m., Stow City Center Campus, 3870 Darrow Road. The Splash Bash will feature giant water slides, a huge slip-n-slide, fire truck and fire hose, and a foam cannon and foam pit. Shaved ice treats will be provided by the Kona Ice truck.

July 2

Hudson: Fireworks Celebration, Barlow Farm Park, 1965 Barlow Road. The fireworks begin at dusk. There is no rain date this year. Parking is available at JoAnn Stores with shuttle service to Barlow Farm Park. Shuttle service begins at 7 p.m. There is no parking at Little Tikes this year. Handicapped parking/viewing is available at Wood Hollow Park.

Stow: Celebrate Stow Patriotic Picnic, 1-4 p.m. A community picnic at the new SKiP Playground, 3870 Darrow Road. There will be free picnic food and a celebration, including a ribbon cutting for the new playground.

July 3

Brunswick: Fireworks, 9:15-10 p.m. Time listed is approximate. Fireworks will start at dusk at Brunswick High School campus, 3581 Center Road. Rain date is July 5.

Hiram: 8 p.m., gathering, entertainment (Swifty the Clown and Health Helicopter), food. Fireworks on football field about 9:15 p.m.

Massillon: City of Champions Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks, Duncan Plaza Amphitheater, 121 Lincoln Way E. The Li’l Miss Liberty and Li’l Uncle Sam Pageant will once again be held. Registration begins at 5 p.m. at the registration table located on City Hall Street. New Wave Nation performs from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Fireworks at 9:45 p.m.

Medina: Fireworks display will be launched after dark at Medina High School parking lot.  Rain date is July 5.

Wadsworth: Fireworks & food trucks, Downtown Wadsworth, 6-10:30 p.m. Fireworks at dusk, around 10 p.m. Food trucks will be downtown as well as more than 20 downtown restaurants and retailers. This event is free to the public.

July 4

Alliance: Silver Park, 2930 S. Union Ave. Festival 5-9 p.m. free and open to the public, including food trucks and live music. Fireworks at dusk.

Aurora: July 4th Fun Run, parade, festival and fireworks. Bicentennial Park, 115 E. Pioneer Trail. Fun Run registration 7-7:50 a.m. at Bicentennial Gazebo, 1-mile at 8 a.m. at corner of state Route 43/E. Pioneer, 5K/Masters at 8:30 a.m. 11 a.m. parade will start at Barrington Town Square and make its way down state routes 306/43, ending at Aurora High School. Festival noon-4 p.m. at Kiwanis-Moore Park, 35 W. Pioneer Trail. Food trucks, music and entertainment. Fireworks at dusk at Pioneer Trail ballfields. Rain date is July 5.

Fairlawn: Independence Day celebration & fireworks, 5-10:30 p.m. Bicentennial Park, 3486 S. Smith Road. Mick and Rick will play in the gazebo at 5 p.m. followed by Jersey the Band on stage at 8 p.m. Fireworks at approximately 10 p.m. Food trucks and beer/seltzer trucks will begin serving at 5 p.m.

Fredericksburg: 31st anniversary Independence Day Parade lineup begins at North Hill at 9 a.m. Parade steps off at 11 a.m. Sports teams, bands, choirs, classic and sports cars, tractors, wagons and horse groups invited to participate.

Hiram: 9:30 a.m., Softball game on Jagow Field; 10:30 a.m., HPD Bike Rodeo at the Hiram Christian Church parking lot; noon parade; 12:30 p.m., potluck & kids games at Hiram College's Gerstacker Green on Dean Street; 4 p.m., Hiram Community Band performance at Frohring Building; 5:30 p.m., pie contest, Gerstacker Arch; 7:30 p.m., Big Band performance, Dance & Ice Cream Social, Gerstacker Green.

Hudson: Fun on the 4th, First & Main Green, 42 Village Way. 9-11:30 a.m. Within the designated outdoor refreshment area, 4-mile road race/walk. To register:  www.westernreserveracing.com/races/four-on-the-4th.

Medina: 4 p.m. parade route begins at Medina High School parking lot, heads south on Spring Grove, then west on Liberty Street and around the Square.

Stow: Firecracker Run, 7:30 a.m., Holy Family Church, 3179 Kent Road, 4-Mile & 2-Mile Fun Run. 4-Mile: $35 pre-registration; $40 day of race. 2-Mile Fun Run: $25 pre-registration; $30 day of race. 10 a.m., parade starts at the Stow Community Center (Target Plaza parking lot).  Travels down state Route 59 and ends west of Holy Family Church.

Valley City: Parade, car show, music & fireworks. Parade steps off at 11 a.m. west on state Route 303, north on West River, east on School Street, north on Maple Street, ending at Mill Stream Park. 11:45 a.m. car show at Mill Stream Park. Concessions available benefiting BSA Troop 502. Entertainment at 7 p.m. Fireworks at dusk.

Wooster: Fireworks Festival, 5-10:30 p.m., corner of Burbank Road and Oldman Road. Food and family entertainment prior to the fireworks at 10 p.m. North of the Kinney Building on Burbank Road between Highland and Oldman Road at the soccer complex.

Wooster: Ohio Light Opera Community Pops Concert, Main Street Wooster, 377 W. Liberty St., 7-8 p.m. near the pavilion. Free concert featuring patriotic songs.

July 4-8

Orrville: Parade at 4 p.m. July 4. Carnival midway with rides, games and food at Orr Park July 4-8. Fire in the Sky Fast Pitch Softball Tournament, girls 14 or younger, July 6-8. Fireworks about 10:15 p.m. July 8. www.facebook.com/OrrvilleFirefightersAssociation.

July 6

Twinsburg: Free Patriotic Concert at Liberty Park Nature Center, 9999 Liberty Road, 7-8:30 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the music of the Western Reserve Community Band, made up of musicians from around Summit County. Popcorn and lemonade will be provided.

July 8

Portage Lakes: The annual fireworks will be shot from the state park at 10 p.m. The rain date is July 9 for fireworks only. The Boat Parade will be held 1 p.m. July 8.  To sign up or for more information contact Andy Shriner at 330-400-4470.
