Here's what happened in the 2021 LHSAA volleyball state championship matches

The 2021 LHSAA volleyball state championships came to a close on Saturday with the title matches in five divisions at the Cajundome.

Metairie Park Country Day takes home Division V title

No. 1 seed Metairie Park Country Day took home the Division V title by defeating No. 3 seed Episcopal of Acadiana in three sets, 25-21, 27-25 and 25-16.

Senior Nia Washington led Metairie with 13 digs and 19 kills, while senior libero Ellison Vosbein also had 13 digs. Washington also won most outstanding player of the match.

Notre Dame wins Division IV state title for the first time since 2012

For the first time since 2012, No. 2 seed Notre Dame is the Division IV champion, defeating No. 5 seed Lafayette Christian in three sets, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-21.

Senior Lily Morgan won most outstanding player of the match with 15 kills. Senior Andrus Kelbaugh led the Pios with 5.5 blocks and senior J.C. Schmid had a team-high 12 assists.

"I've been dreaming about this moment since I watched my sister Grace win her freshman year," Morgan said. "I can't take any credit at all ... you can't do anything without a pass, a set."

For Lafayette Christian, senior Kaitlyn Washington had nine kills and a pair of blocks while senior Peyton Castro recorded an ace lead the team with five assists.

Archbishop Hannan tops E.D. White for Division III title

Archbishop Hannan swept E.D. White in straight sets for the Division III title, 25-12, 25-14 and 25-17.

Sophomore Sophie Bonnaffee led Hannan with 17 kills en route to winning the most outstanding player of the match award. Senior libero Claire Buisson recorded 15 digs while sophomore Sarah Kirsh had 43 assists.

Senior Caroline Bower led E.D. White with 10 kills and three blocks.

"It was a great season," E.D. White coach Sarah Johnson said. "I know it didn't end the way we wanted it to, but we fought hard all season long. I can't be more proud of the girls than I am today."

St. Thomas More ends Teurlings' Division II championship streak

No. 2 seed Teurlings lost in the Division II final to rival St. Thomas More, the No. 1 seed, in a thrilling five-set match, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 16-14.

It was the first time Teurlings had not won the state championship in eight years.

Emma Broussard had 32 assists for St. Thomas More and Rhyan Miciotto added 27 assists. Mayah Richard led STM with 31 digs while teammates Addison Phares and AC Froenich had 23 digs apiece.

Madison Fobbs and Reagan Richey led Teurlings with 18 and 16 kills respectively. Emma Cother dished out 37 assists while Kenley Nonato added 31 digs.

Repeat for Dominican in Division I

Top-seeded Dominican won Division I with a five-set victory over No. 2 St. Joseph’s Academy.

It's the second consecutive year Dominican defeated St. Joseph's for the title. Kate Baker dished out 52 assists and had 38 digs in the win for Dominican.

Anna Musso and Morgan Perry led St. Joseph's with 16 and 15 kills respectively.
