Here's what happens now that Roe v. Wade is overturned

Good morning! Welcome to another sunny Saturday. ☀️ This is Tennessean Planning Director Madalyn Hoerr.

As you know by now, The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday upheld a Mississippi ban on abortion after 15 weeks in a decision overturning the 1973 landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

Roe's ruling guaranteed the constitutional right to abortion. Without it, and its companion decision Casey v. Planned Parenthood, the decision about allowing the procedure is left up to individual states.

As of now, abortion access remains legal in Tennessee. But how long it will remain so is unclear as the state pursues two pathways to enact a ban "as soon as possible."

Justice reporter Mariah Timms and statehouse reporter Melissa Brown explain what happens in Tennessee now that U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Mariah and Melissa are only two of the people on a busy team keeping you informed of how this decision will impact the lives of Tennesseans.
