So, Here’s How Harry and Meghan Could Cause “Chaos” at the Coronation

Does anyone have “the entire Sussex fam makes a Buckingham Palace balcony appearance” on their 2023 royal family bingo card? Because it seems like that could be a thing that actually happens (even though we were honestly never expecting to see a Sussex join a balcony photo op again in a post-Spare world).

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly been pushing for some changes to their family’s proposed role in the coronation before agreeing to RSVP, and the Palace is stressed that straight-up “chaos” could ensue.

“The Palace are trying to wrap up negotiations as quickly as possible because they can’t go right up to the wire. It could lead to chaos,” a royal insider told OK! magazine. “It could very well be that it ends in stalemate and they won’t attend. But the Palace is doing everything in its power to not let that happen.”

After King Charles has been crowned, the royals are expected to gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to wave to the crowd/give people time to take a bajillion or so pictures of them, and Harry and Meghan have reportedly asked that they and their children, Archie and Lilibet, be included. However, because only working royals are currently expected to be invited to appear on the balcony, this is a pretty big ask and one that still doesn’t seem super likely to be granted.

Archie and Lilibet aren’t expected to attend the actual coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey, and Harry and Meghan are reportedly totally fine with them skipping that part of the festivities (because Archie and Lili are 3 and 1, respectively, and would, in addition to not having any fun at all, be prone to “restlessness and tantrums,” as the royal source put it). “However, what the Sussexes are pushing for is for them to be included with the rest of the family at the Palace later that day,” the source explained (per The Mirror).

The final item this week’s unnamed royal source spilled from Harry and Meghan’s coronation wish list: literally any kind of acknowledgment during the day of Archie’s birthday, which is the same day as the coronation.

“It’s also Prince Archie’s birthday on coronation day, so they would like some kind of nod to that at a lunch or drinks reception,” the insider added. “Even if it’s just a happy birthday mention.”

So to recap in commoner terms, Harry and Meghan are basically asking to be included in a family photo, to be allowed to bring their kids to some family functions at their grandpa’s house, and for their relatives to say “happy birthday” to their son on his birthday.
