Here's how you can help the family of fallen Milwaukee police officer Peter Jerving

Businesses and organizations across the Milwaukee area are finding their own ways to show support for the family of fallen Milwaukee police officer Peter Jerving.

Jerving was shot and killed early Tuesday while trying to arrest a robbery suspect who hours earlier had been sentenced to probation in a misdemeanor hit-and-run case.

From fundraisers at bars and a bakery to an organization collecting donations, here's a list of ways to help.

The first two donation opportunities on this list were officially announced by Jerving's family on Thursday:

All Landmark Credit Union locations collecting donations

Donations can be made in person to the "Officer Jerving End of Watch Fund" at any Landmark Credit Union location.

MPA Fallen Heroes Inc. collecting donations online and via checks by mail

"Milwaukee Police Association Fallen Heroes INC. has one goal, to assist law enforcement officers, especially those with the Milwaukee Police Department as well as their dependents, in the event of an officer’s death, injury disability or extraordinary need," the organization's website said.

The group has a Fallen Heroes Fund set up in Jerving's name. Donations can be made online at milwaukeefallenheroesinc.com/fallen-heroes-funds.

People can also donate by making checks payable to “MPA Fallen Heroes Inc." On the memo line of the check, they should indicate the campaign. Checks are to be mailed to MPA Fallen Heroes Inc., 6310 W. Bluemound Road, Milwaukee, WI 53213.

"All contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and are tax deductible," the site said.

Kelly's Bleachers Wind Lake donating Feb. 10 cover charges, food and drink proceeds

Jerving was a member of Kelly's Bleachers Wind Lake's Meetup group and was scheduled to play volleyball there this Friday, the business shared on its Facebook page.

On the night of Feb. 10, cover charges will be collected and given to Jerving's family "through a generous gift from US Title Company," the Facebook post said. Proceeds from all food and beverage purchases that night will also be donated to his family.

The cover charge will be $10, and there will be volleyball and live music, organizer David Wacker said.

"While this cannot replace a great person, we hope it will help Peter's family during this difficult time," the Facebook post said.

Henry Flach in West Allis donating $1 for every martini sold this week

Henry Flach in West Allis is donating $1 for every martini sold this week to Jerving's family, the business posted on its Facebook page. The money will be given to Milwaukee's police union to give to his family, the post said.

This week, the establishment is also reserving "the best seat" at its bar with a thin blue line American flag and candle to honor the officer "for his ultimate sacrifice to the city."

Jen's Sweet Treats in Cudahy donating 100% of daily sales Feb. 16

Jen's Sweet Treats in Cudahy will be donating 100% of its sales on Feb. 16 to Jerving's family, the business posted on its Facebook page. The bakery, 4745 S. Packard Ave., will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day.

"(The officer's) family is struck with tragedy and they just need to know that somebody cares about them," owner Jen Clark told the Journal Sentinel. "I'm sure that they can use some money in these hard times."

On the day of the fundraiser, the bakery will be stocked with its usual offerings, including cookies, cupcakes, turnovers, brownies, doughnuts, muffins, candy, soups, salads and more, Clark said.

Boxes of dozen-count variety cupcakes can be pre-ordered for $42 each by calling 414-940-0532.

Milwaukee's Valley Inn donating all proceeds from pizzas on Feb. 21

Milwaukee's Valley Inn is hosting a pizza fundraiser on Feb. 21. All proceeds from the pizzas will be donated to Jerving's family, manager Barbara Orban told the Journal Sentinel.

Patrons can eat in or take out baked or unbaked pizzas. Customers are encouraged to pre-order by calling 414-344-1158 and ask for Barb.

"(Police officers) do so much for everybody, and they just don't get the recognition that they deserve," Orban said. "They're out there fighting on the streets for all of us in this warzone that's going throughout the country. They just deserve support."
