Here's how you can help Scouts restock Leonia food pantry shelves

LEONIA — Scout troops will be collecting donations for the Leonia Food Pantry on Saturday.

Here's how you can help

Drive-thru donations will be accepted from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at American Legion Post 1, 399 Broad Ave.  Donations should be bagged or boxed for easy removal from vehicles by Scout volunteers.

What's needed

Suggested food items include:

  • Canned meals such as meaty soups, stews and chili.

  • Canned fruits, vegetables, meats and fish.

  • Dried beans, rice and pasta.

  • Condiments such as cooking oil, mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard.

  • Breakfast items such as cold cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, syrup, honey and sugar.

  • Snack items such as crackers, smooth peanut butter and jelly.

  • Drink items such as boxed milk, tea, regular and instant coffee, canned or bottled juices and juice boxes.

  • Housekeeping items such as dish soap, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels and sponges.

  • Personal hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hand soap and feminine hygiene products.

Financial donations are also welcome: Checks made out to St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church with "food pantry" in the memo section, or ShopRite gift cards.

Where's the food pantry?

The food pantry is at St. John's, at 470 Broad Ave. For more information about donations or applying for assistance, call St. John's Rectory Office at 201-947-4545.
