Spartanburg County residents have a voice in deciding the future of Spartanburg County parks and recreation programs.

Through May 31, the county's Parks Department is asking residents to fill out an online survey.

"It will really make a difference in the quality of life in Spartanburg County and help us make our parks and programs the best they can be for the next five years and beyond," said Parks spokeswoman Kristen Guilfoos.

The survey can be accessed at www.spartanburgparks.org.

"Every five years, it's our way of gauging what the public wants from us, from parks and facilities to community centers and programs," she said. "It gives us insight into what the community wants, so we can better plan for five years."

Categories include youth athletics; before-and-after-school programs; adult sports; performing arts and senior adult programs; aquatics programs; programs for teens; outdoor recreation programs such as kayaking and rock climbing; dance; music and camps

After May 31, the results will be tabulated by a team from Clemson University. It will then be used by the parks department in its five-year planning process, she said.

"It's not a specific document, but it helps us gauge what's important and what is not," Guilfoos said.
