Here's what you need to know ahead of this weekend's USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships

The USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships will be held Saturday and Sunday in Milwaukee.

The Olympic Distance event will be Saturday and the Sprint event will be Sunday.

Here’s what you need to know about the triathlon:

Where will it take place?

It will mostly take place around Milwaukee’s lakefront. The Transition Zone is at Urban Park, the green space just north of the Summerfest grounds at the corner of North Harbor Drive and East Clybourn Street. The course maps can be found here.

Swimming will start at Discovery World and end at the Transition Zone. The course goes through the Lakeshore State Park Inlet.

Biking will start and end at the Transition Zone. Saturday’s 40-kilometer course will stretch south to St. Francis, Mitchell International Airport and Cudahy. Sunday’s 20k course goes south to Russell Avenue in Bay View.

Running will start at the Transition Zone and end just north of East Michigan Street and North Lincoln Memorial Drive. Saturday’s 10k course runs north to Bradford Beach. Sunday’s 5k course runs north to Veterans Park.

When does it start?

Both days events will start with swimming at 7 a.m.

Will roads be closed?

Yes, here is Saturday’s road-closure plan:

  • East Michigan Street (east of Lincoln Memorial Drive): Closed 4:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

  • North Harbor Drive (from East Chicago Street to East Michigan): Closed 4:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

  • Lincoln Memorial Drive: Closed 4:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Northbound and southbound lanes will be closed from East Michigan to Lake Drive. The off-ramp from I-794 West to Lincoln Memorial Drive will be closed until 1:30 p.m.

  • East Mason Street, East Lagoon Drive, East Lafayette Hill Drive, East Water Tower Road, East Ravine Road: No thru traffic due to Lincoln Memorial Drive closure 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

  • I-794 North: Closed 4:30 a.m.-1 p.m. All lanes of I-794 North from Lincoln Memorial Drive to Pennsylvania Avenue.

  • East Howard Avenue: Closed 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Eastbound and westbound lanes from I-794 to South Lake Drive.

  • South Lake Drive: Closed 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Northbound and southbound lanes from East Howard Avenue to East Layton Avenue.

  • East Armour Avenue: Closed 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Eastbound and westbound lanes from Lake Drive to South Sheridan Drive.

  • South Sheridan Drive: Closed 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Northbound and southbound lanes from East Armour Avenue to East Pulaski Avenue.

Here is Sunday’s road-closure plan:

  • East Michigan Street (east of Lincoln Memorial Drive): Closed 4:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

  • North Harbor Drive (from East Chicago Street to East Michigan): Closed 4:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

  • Lincoln Memorial Drive: Closed 4:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Northbound and Southbound lanes closed from East Michigan to Lake Drive. Off-ramp from I-794 West to Lincoln Memorial Drive will remain closed until 12:30 p.m.

  • East Mason Street, East Lagoon Drive, East Lafayette Hill Drive, East Water Tower Road, East Ravine Road: No thru traffic due to Lincoln Memorial Drive closure 6:30 a.m.-noon.

  • I-794 North: Closed 5:30 a.m.-noon. All lanes of I-794 North from Lincoln Memorial Drive to East Howard Avenue.
