Here's what to know if you plan to vote at a polling place on April 4

It's Election Day, rain or shine, but those who are hoping to cast their votes Tuesday should think about doing so in the morning.

Currently, Greene County could see scattered storms starting as early as Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Springfield, though it's more likely that the severe storms will start in the evening, including potential for tornadoes, high winds and hail.

Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller expects voter turnout to be between 17% to 19%, based on the issues on this election's ballot.

Schoeller doesn't anticipate the weather will cause much disruption in voting, since people tend to vote before work in the morning and after work in the evenings.

"If there is a warning where we need to take shelter, we do have a disaster preparedness plan for election judges where they will take shelter, but as soon as that storm passes, and there's no damage, we'll get right back up to voting," Schoeller said.

What do I need to vote?

Missouri law requires voters to show a valid government-issued photo ID from the state of Missouri or the federal government, such as a driver's license, passport or military ID.

If you don't have identification, but are registered to vote, you can cast a provisional ballot. Your vote will count if the signature on your provisional ballot matches your signature in the voter registry, or if you come back to your polling place on Election Day and show a valid photo ID.

When does voting start?

Voting on April 4 starts at 6 a.m. and goes until 7 p.m.

Where can I vote?

If you're not sure where your polling place is, you can check your registration on the Missouri Secretary of State's website, which will tell you where your polling place is, or you can visit https://vote.greenecountymo.gov/voting-information.

There are central voting locations where any registered Greene County voter can go to cast their ballot:

  • Missouri State Davis-Harrington Welcome Center, 1148 E. Bear Blvd., Springfield;

  • Mercy Hospital, 1235 E. Cherokee St., Springfield;

  • City Utilities Transit Center, 211 N. Main Ave., Springfield;

  • CoxHealth Medical Center South, 3801 S. National Ave., Springfield.

The Meyer Alumni Center has some significant construction on the road in front of it, but voters will still be able to get in to cast their ballots. Voters at that location should enter through McDaniel Street and park in the parking garage, Schoeller said.
