Here's a list of Black Friday store hours at major retailers in Ames

The National Retail Federation is predicting an increase in holiday sales this year, despite inflation and higher interest rates.

It forecasts sales will be 6% to 8% higher than last year, totaling as much as $960 billion.

“This year’s forecast follows last year’s extraordinary 13.5% growth driven by pandemic factors and is still well above the 4.9% average over the past 10 years,” according to a news release from the national organization. “The numbers include online and other non-store sales, which should increase between 10% and 12% to between $262.8 billion and $267.6 billion.”

Between Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday, an estimated 166.3 million people are planning to shop, according to the annual survey by the National Retail Federation and Prosper Insights & Analytics. That’s about 8 million more Americans expected to shop during the five-day weekend than last year.

Experts predict, however, that this season could be a "last hurrah" as consumers' pandemic-related cash reserves dwindle and the country prepares for a short-term recession.

Major retailers in Ames will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but each has online shopping and most are offering early Black Friday deals. Walmart, for example, started its Black Friday deals earlier this month.

Here's a list of Ames store hours on Black Friday 2022:

North Grand Mall

North Grand Mall, 2801 Grand Ave., is closed Thanksgiving Day, and open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Black Friday. Store hours vary. JCPenney opens at 5 a.m., while Bath & Body Works opens at 6 a.m.

Target

Target, 320 S. Duff Ave., will be open on Black Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. It will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Walmart

Walmart is closed on Thanksgiving. On Black Friday, both locations at 534 S. Duff Ave. and 3105 Grand Ave. will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Theisen's

Theisen's of Ames, 1315 S. Dayton Ave., will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Black Friday. It will be closed Thanksgiving Day.

Best Buy

Best Buy retail stores will not be open on Thanksgiving Day. The Ames location, 1220 S. Duff Ave., opens from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Black Friday.

Kohl's

Kohl's department store, 2423 Grand Ave., is open on Black Friday from 5 a.m. to midnight. The store is closed on Thanksgiving.

Lowe's

The Lowe’s, 120 Airport Road, will be open on Black Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. It will be closed on Thanksgiving.

Menards

Menards, 700 S.E. 16th St., is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Black Friday. It is closed on Thanksgiving.
