Here's a look at Galesburg-area teams and their opponents in IHSA football playoffs

GALESBURG — The Lincoln Trail Conference showed its has showed its strength once again as the Illinois High School Association announced its playoff pairings in eight classes on Saturday night.

The LTC with Galesburg-area teams Knoxville, ROWA/Williamsfield and Annawan/Wethersfield leading the way, saw five of its eight teams earn spots in the playoffs which will open Friday and Saturday.

In fact, two former members of the LTC — West Central and Ridgewood — also claimed seeds near the top of the 16-team 8-man football playoffs which are organized by the 8-man Football Association.

Other Galesburg-area teams Monmouth-Roseville and Macomb also received their playoff assignments.

Class 1A games

In Class 1A, Stark County (5-4) will play at ROWVA/Williamsfield (5-4) in a 7 p.m. Friday game.

That contest between the two LTC foes is the only area game time that has been announced with other starts expected to be announced on Monday.

The playoff game will be the first played in Oneida since the 2006 season when ROWVA played in a co-op with AlWood and is the first R/W playoff game since 2018.

In an earlier meeting this season between the schools, R/W won at Stark County 34-13 .

Also in Class 1A,  LTC co-champion Annawan/Wethersfield (7-2) will host Rockford Lutheran (5-4).

A/W is making its 14th straight appearance in the playoffs.

Class 2A games

Knoxville (7-2) is making its ninth straight playoff appearance — not counting the COVID — altered season of 2020 — as one of the tri-champions of the LTC.

The Blue Bullets will entertain Mendon-Unity (6-3), a member of the Western Illinois Valley (North) Conference.

Mendon-Unity made the playoffs last season and finished with a 6-4 record in 2021.

Class 3A

Monmouth-Roseville (5-4) will travel to Stillman Valley (8-1) for its first-round game.

The Titans will face a team that went 8-3 last year and is making its fifth straight playoff appearance.

Stillman Valley's tradition includes five state titles in a stretch from 1998-2013 in Class 2A and Class 3A.

Class 4A

Macomb (9-0) will hold a No. 3 seed playoff seed when it hosts Quincy Notre Dame (5-4).

The Bombers are returning to the playoffs after finishing 2021 at 6-4.

8-man football

West Central (9-0) will carry the No. 2 ranking in 8-man football into the postseason when it hosts South Beloit (5-4).

The No. 3 team in 8-man — Ridgewood (8-1) —  will host South Fork (5-4).

Ridgewood ended its regular season by beating Flanagan 54-22 on Saturday.
