Here's a look at the week's baseball lineup for Martinsville, Mooresville, Monrovia
Here's a look at where local teams will be playing during sectionals this week. Should a team win the sectional championship, regionals will begin on June 4.
Martinsville vs. Whiteland
Date: May 30, 2022
Time: 12:00 p.m.
Place: Center Grove High School
Series last 10 years: Martinsville, 11-6.
Last meeting: Whiteland, 5-1, April 27, 2022.
Outlook: When the two first met during the regular season, the two were at a similar place. Both were in the middle of the pack in the Mid-State fighting for better positioning. Coming into this one, both had previously been on skids since. But Martinsville has been able to turn it around. Given this one will be for a sectional championship berth, expect it to be very competitive. The two split the series during the regular season.
Mooresville vs. Center Grove
Date: May 30, 2022.
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Place: Center Grove High School
Series last 10 years: Centergrove, 1-0.
Last meeting: Center Grove, 6-3, May 7, 2012.
Outlook: The one many have been waiting for. A clash between the state's No. 1 team and No. 2 team in Class 4A. When comparing the two, Center Grove seems to have more impressive wins on its resume. But Mooresville has a couple itself. Taking down the Trojans will be a mighty task, but the Pioneers aren't ranked No. 2 without reason. If the cards fall into place, this game should turn out to be great. The Pioneers will need its strong defense, mixed with key performances from its significant offensive players to win.
Monoriva vs. Cascade
Date: May 30, 2022.
Time: 12:30 p.m.
Place: Park Tudor High School
Series last 10 years: Cascade, 6-11.
Last meeting: Cascade, 16-6, May 18, 2022.
Outlook: Monrovia had a tough time defeating Cascade in the regular season, losing 10-0 and 16-6. Facing them a third time won't be any easier. But the Bulldogs will know what they're in for, and that should help. Not only that, but factor in the fact they'll be playing a rival in Cascade for a sectional championship berth. Monrovia will need a strong defensive performance to give its offense a shot at making something happen.
