Here's a map of cooling centers in Austin so you can escape the heat

Looking for a place to cool down from Austin’s triple-digit temperatures this year? We’ve made a map marking the area’s different cooling centers recognized by the Parks Recreation Department.

A cooling center is a place for a temporary escape from the heat and does not allow overnight stay, said the austintexas.gov website, and service animals are allowed inside.

The Parks Recreation Department released a list of some cooling centers in Austin. Here’s a map with each location:

In addition to locations marked on the map, all parks and public libraries in Austin will serve as cooling centers during their normal operating hours, the website said. Public pools also serve as a great place to cool down.

Some tips include staying hydrated but avoiding sugary or caffeinated drinks, applying sunscreen with at least SPF 15, staying in the shade and checking in on your neighbors to ensure they have the resources they need.
