Here's how much Publix pays per hour in Florida

From actors, producers and writers in Hollywood, to service industry employees, 2023 brought waves of workers’ strikes and demands for better working conditions and higher pay across the country.

And Florida’s favorite grocery store was no exception. In October, Publix store managers from Florida, Tennessee and Georgia filed a lawsuit against the supermarket chain. They claimed the store didn’t pay some employees for hundreds of hours of overtime.

Publix touts itself as "the largest employee-owned company in the United States." Publix says it employs 250,000 people total and continues expanding outside Florida. Of Publix's 1,358 stores, 861 are in Florida, and that doesn't include its 10 Florida distribution centers and two manufacturing facilities also in the state.

Here’s how much Publix employees make per hour in Florida and a quick recap of why some managers are suing the grocery store chain.

Why are Publix employees suing the company?

When the lawsuit was initially filed, there were only a handful of plaintiffs. But the number of Publix managers and employees coming forward to join the federal lawsuit is growing.

Former and current employees of the Florida grocery store chain from locations in Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Indian River counties joined the lawsuit this month.

The lawsuit claims that employees work an average of three to five hours of unpaid work per week.
