Here's how to navigate Des Moines during the IMT Marathon this Sunday

Thousands of runners will be hitting the streets this Sunday for the annual IMT Des Moines Marathon. Race day includes the 26.2-mile course, plus the Bankers Trust Marathon Relay, the IMT Des Moines Half Marathon, the Principal 5K Road Race and the MercyOne Children's Hospital Kids Run.

Below are all of the road closures to expect throughout the race weekend:

Road closures from Saturday Oct. 15 to Sunday Oct. 16

Here are the dates and locations of the road closures throughout the marathon weekend:

Closed Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. until Oct. 16 at 8 a.m.:

  • Court Avenue, 2nd Street to 3rd Street

  • Court Avenue, 3rd Street to 5th Street

  • 4th Street, Vine Street to Court Avenue

  • 4th Street, Walnut Street to Court Avenue

Closed Oct. 16 from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • Court Avenue, Water Street to 2nd Street

  • 2nd Street, Walnut Street to Vine Street (closed until 6 p.m.)

  • 3rd Street, Walnut Street to Vine Street

  • 5th Street, Walnut Street to Cherry Street

Closed Oct. 16 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway (eastbound), Fleur Drive to SE 4th Street

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway (westbound), East 4th Street to SW 11th Street
