Here's what is open, closed around Cincinnati on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day

So long, 2022. We're more than ready to wave hello to 2023.

New Year's Eve and New Year's Day will fall on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, with many observing the federal holiday the following Monday, Jan. 2.

The holiday means that some of the businesses and services you normally use may be closed from Dec. 31 through Jan. 2. Here's what to know about what will be open and closed on New Year's Eve and on New Year's Day.

What's open and closed on New Year's Eve

Grocery stores: A number of stores will close early on Dec. 31, but Walmart is expected to remain open normal hours. Be sure to check your local store hours, just in case.

  • Aldi: Closes at 4 p.m.

  • Costco: Closes at 6 p.m.

  • Kroger: Stores will be open, but some may close early. Be sure to check your local store's hours.

  • Target: Closes at 9 p.m.

  • Trader Joe's: Closes at 6 p.m.

  • Sam's Club: Closes at 6 p.m.

Banks: Most banks will be open, but check your local bank's hours just in case.

Mail: Regular mail will be delivered. Local post offices will be open, but mail may be picked up from the blue collection boxes earlier than usual. The United States Postal Service advises dropping off mail in those boxes before noon.

UPS stores will be open and will make deliveries as usual. Some FedEx services will be open with modified service and hours.

Libraries: The Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library will close early at 5 p.m.

What's open and closed on New Year's Day

Grocery stores: Target, Kroger and Walmart will be open, while Aldi, Costco, Trader Joe's and Sam's Club will be closed Jan. 1.

Banks: Because New Year's Day falls on a Sunday, banks will close on Monday, Jan. 2 for the holiday.

Mail: Regular mail will not be delivered, but Priority Mail Express will. Local Post Office locations will be closed and mail will not be picked up from blue collection boxes.

UPS will be closed Jan. 1 and 2 to observe the holiday, with only limited store locations open Monday. FedEx will also be closed Jan. 1, with ground and home delivery reopening Jan. 2.

Trash: If your regular City of Cincinnati trash collection day falls on a Monday, your trash will be collected the following day. Collections for the remainder of the week will be delayed one day. There will be no delays with Rumpke's collection on Sunday, Jan. 1.

Libraries: The Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library will be closed Jan. 1 and 2.

Federal offices: Federal offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 2.

Stocks: The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will be closed Jan. 2.
