Here's who will serve as the next chancellor of Ivy Tech's South Bend-Elkhart campus

INDIANAPOLIS — Ivy Tech's South Bend-Elkhart campus is announcing its next chancellor.

Tia Robinson-Cooper, president of Contra Costa College in California, has been named the next chancellor and will replace the campus's former leader, David Balkin.

Robinson-Cooper's selection comes following a national search with input provided by members of the Ivy Tech president's cabinet, campus and state boards, faculty and staff, according to a news release from the college.

"(Robinson-Cooper) is an experienced community college leader with two decades of progressive leadership experience," Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann said in the release. "I look forward to supporting her work as she leads the South Bend-Elkhart campus, placing more students on the path to high-quality education and successful careers which support the economic growth of South Bend-Elkhart.”

Robinson-Cooper previously served as a provost and chief academic officer at Inver Hill Community College in Minnesota and as vice president of academic affairs at East Central College in Missouri. She's also held various dean and adjunct faculty positions a colleges across the Midwest.

The incoming chancellor is originally from Chicago and earned her doctorate degree in counseling and adult higher education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. She also has master's degrees from National Louis University, earned her bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University and holds an associate's degree from Kishwaukee College.

"I have always admired Ivy Tech’s intentional commitment to workforce development and social-economic mobility,” Robinson-Cooper said in the college's news release. “I am honored to serve as chancellor of Ivy Tech South Bend-Elkhart and look forward to continuing this important work.”

Robinson-Cooper's first day is July 11.
