Here's a stocking full of holiday events in Appleton and the Fox Cities

If you're looking for ways to get into the spirit of the holidays, the Appleton area offers a variety of festivities to enjoy the season.

Here are just a few of the activities scheduled for December:

Fox Cities Festival of Lights

Fox Cities Festival of Lights, 5 to 9 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 25, Darboy Community Park, N9334 Noe Rd., Harrison.

The Fox Cities Festival of Lights is a family friendly walk-through light display. Hours are weather-dependent, so check the “Fox Cities Festival of Lights” page on Facebook for updates.

Santa will be in attendance until Dec. 23.

Most of the displays are in the wooded area on trails, so boots are suggested. Pets aren't allowed in the park. Parking is available on the east side of the park off of Skippers Lane, as well as on Midway and Noe roads.

Celebration of Lights

Celebration of Lights, 6:30 to 10 p.m. nightly through Dec. 31, Menominee Park, Oshkosh.

Admission is $20 per carload, with a $5 discount for a donation of a sealed hygiene item or nonperishable food item. Community Nights, with free admission, will be offered throughout the season.

Visitors can tune their radio to a specific station to view the displays timed to holiday music. Other activities include Santa hanging out in his workshop, live reindeer and carriage rides. For a full schedule, visit www.oshkoshcol.org.

Delightfully Calumet

Delightfully Calumet, 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday through December, Calumet County Fairgrounds, 900 Francis St., Chilton.

Delightfully Calumet is a holiday drive-through light show that features several 150-foot displays, boasting more than 130,000 lights synchronized to Christmas music. Attendees will be asked to tune their car radio to a specified station.

Admission is a donation of nonperishable food. Monetary donations also will be accepted and will go to the future growth of Delightfully Calumet and participating organizations.

Hearthstone Museum events

Victorian Christmas: 1882, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Jan. 8, Hearthstone Historic House Museum, 625 W. Prospect Ave., Appleton. (Closed Dec. 24 and 31.)

Each room at the museum is decorated with a tree and hand-crafted holiday decor. Docents will be dressed in holiday attire of the Victorian era. The rooms are decorated by volunteers and students in the Fox Valley Technical College interior design program.

In honor of its 140th anniversary, the museum will show what was trending in 19th century holiday decorating, drawn from magazines, newspapers and photographs of the day. This includes the use of the very first Christmas lights.

These aren't scheduled tours and attendees are encouraged to wander at their own pace.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children.

Nutcracker in the Castle

Enjoy a bit of the fantastical with a different take on the classic ballet. Nutcracker in the Castle runs daily through Jan. 9 at the Paine Art Center and Gardens, 1410 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh.

This annual holiday event offers three styles of tours. The guided tours are already sold out.

Still available are the self-guided tours, where visitors can wander on their own in the daytime, reading the story from the storybooks in each room; and candlelight tours, a self-guided evening tour, where the lights of the “castle” are dimmed and visitors receive a battery-powered candle to carry as they explore.

In addition to the décor, the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Cupcake Café, located in the Conservatory at the back of the Paine property, offers hot cocoa and cupcakes in a fairyland setting, with the Sugar Plum Fairy as a hostess. No reservations are needed for the Cupcake Café.

For Kids from 1 to 92

Singers Steve March-Tormé and Vic Ferrari’s Michael Bailey perform in a special holiday show with special guests including Neenah's Touch of Class strings. Proceeds benefit the Extended Day Learning Program at the YMCA of the Fox Cities. It's at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, 400 W. College Ave., in Appleton.

Tickets are $41 and $21 and are available through the Fox Cities PAC website.

Cory Chisel presents 'An Evening of Holiday Mischief'

The Appleton singer-songwriter returns with his holiday concert, which will include John Holiday, Big Mouth & The Power Tool Horns, DeMario Adams-Holiday, Boy Howdy, Hang Ten, Julia Blair, Rachel Crowl and other surprise guests. It's at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 29 at the Lawrence Memorial Chapel, 510 E. College Ave. in Appleton. Originally planned for Dec. 23, it was rescheduled because of severe weather.
