Here's who stood out last week around Athens in volleyball, cross country and softball

Softball, volleyball and cross country stars shined last week in the Athens area.

As October comes into our sight, playoff implications linger with games and key cross country meets.

Here's a look at the top performers for fall sports.

VOLLEYBALL

Brinley Bartlett, Bailey Bartlett, Olivia Miller, Isabel Miller, Annsley Flack, Oconee County – In Oconee County’s 2-0 victories Tuesday over Flowery Branch and George Walton, Brinley Barton had eight kills and three aces, Bailey Bartlett had eight kills, Olivia Miller had six kills and four blocks and Isabel Miller had 33 assists. In the Warriors’ 3-0 victory Wednesday over Winder-Barrow, Brinley Bartlett had 10 kills, three blocks, three aces and 11 digs, Bailey Bartlett had six kills, Olivia Miller had seven kills and three blocks and Isabel Miller had 30 assists, 12 digs and four aces.

Cadence Thao, Jackson County – In Jackson County’s 2-0 victory Tuesday over Shiloh, Thao recorded her 1,000th career dig.

Lucy Wages, North Oconee – In North Oconee’s 2-0 victories Tuesday over Johnson and Cedar Shoals, Wages recorded 29 aces and 35 assists.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Ben Davis, Brock Brush, Austin Click, Jefferson – At the Dragon Invitational on Thursday at Jefferson, Davis finished sixth among 142 runners in 17 minutes, 23 seconds, followed by Brush (eighth place, 17:39) and Click (10th place, 17:45).

Max Carlson, Beck Wolf-Hardy, James Daniel, Clarke Central – At The Dragon Invitational on Thursday at Jefferson, Carlson finished second among 142 runners in 16 minutes, 40 seconds, followed by Wolf-Hardy (fourth place, 17:00) and Daniel (fifth place, 17:19).

Luke McGarity, Landon Mallonee, Kyle Frankel, Oglethorpe County – At the Patriot Invitational on Sept. 8 at Oglethorpe County, McGarity finished third among 15 runners in 18 minutes, 26 seconds, followed by Mallonee (seventh place, 19:27) and Frankel (ninth place, 19:40).

Nathan Smith, Eli Vaughn, Zack Akins, Zack Rivera, Athens Christian – At the Patriot Invitational on Sept. 8 at Oglethorpe County, Smith finished first among 51 runners in 16 minutes, 40 seconds, followed by Vaughn (fourth place, 18:45), Akins (eighth place, 19:27) and Rivera (10th place, 20:02).

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Smita Carroll, Emma Busbee, Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy – At the Dragon Invitational on Thursday at Jefferson, Carroll finished sixth among 87 runners in 22 minutes, 46 seconds and Busbee finished 10th in 23:19.

Lily Gaddy, Hannah Schroeder, Kiley Powell, Jefferson – At the Dragon Invitational on Thursday at Jefferson, Gaddy finished fourth among 87 runners in 21 minutes, 45 seconds, followed by Schroeder (eighth place, 22:59) and Powell (ninth place, 23:16).

Sydnie Henderson, Lizzie Wadsworth, Mylee Nimmons, Abigail Cabaniss, Harper Palmer, Oglethorpe County – At the Patriot Invitational on Sept. 8 at Oglethorpe County, Henderson finished first among 37 runners in 22 minutes, 13 seconds, followed by Wadsworth (second place, 22:19), Nimmons (eighth place, 25:10), Cabaniss (ninth place, 25:12) and Palmer (10th place, 25:15).

Ashlyn Smith, Kaitlyn Ward, Prince Avenue Christian – At the Patriot Invitational on Sept. 8 at Oglethorpe County, Smith finished fifth among 37 runners in 23 minutes, 19 seconds, followed by Ward, who finished seventh in 24:54.

Ermay Vazquez, Commerce – At the Dragon Invitational on Thursday at Jefferson, finished fifth among 87 runners in a time of 22 minutes, 14 seconds.

Josi Vaughn, Athens Christian – At the Patriot Invitational on Sept. 8 at Oglethorpe County, Vaughn finished fourth among 37 runners in 23 minutes, 13 seconds.

SOFTBALL

Kayleigh Bond, Melissa Maxey, Maddie Johnson, North Oconee – In North Oconee’s 12-4 victory Tuesday over East Hall, Bond had one hit and three RBIs, Maxey had three hits, two runs and two RBIs and Johnson pitched a complete-game nine-hitter with two earned runs, two walks and nine strikeouts and she had two hits, three runs and two RBIs. In North Oconee’s 6-0 victory on Thursday against Seckinger, Johnson pitched a complete-game four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and had two hits and three RBIs.

Audrey Burton, Taylor Spivey, Jefferson – In Jefferson’s 12-3 victory Tuesday over Clarke Central, Burton had three hits, three runs and two RBIs and Spivey had two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Taylor Saxon, Oconee County – In Oconee County’s 10-6 victory Monday over Elbert County, Saxon had a double and two RBIs and pitched four innings of relief with two hits, two runs and six strikeouts.

Sam Minish, Reagan Fulcher, Marlee Brown, Bailey Smith, Madison County – In Madison County’s 11-3 victory Monday over Lumpkin County, Minish hit a home run with three runs and three RBIs, Fulcher had three doubles and three RBIs, Brown had two hits, one run and two RBIs and Smith pitched a complete-game six hitter.

Kate Newberry, Peyton Hawkins, Oconee County – In Oconee County’s 14-7 victory on Thursday at Hart County, Newberry threw a complete-game six-hitter with six earned runs, six walks and seven strikeouts and Hawkins had three hits, two runs and seven RBIs.

Lilly Pittman, Madison County – In Madison County’s 18-2 victory Tuesday over Chestatee, Pittman had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs.

Shaelyn Pyle, Tykeria Johnson, East Jackson – In East Jackson’s 35-21 victory Monday over Cedar Shoals, Pyle had five hits, hit for the cycle, scored six runs and recorded five RBIs and Johnson had four hits, including a home run, scored five runs and posted eight RBIs.

Ryleigh Sapp, Alyssa Willer, Destiny Montgomery, Apalachee – In Apalachee’s doubleheader sweep of Habersham Central on Thursday, Sapp threw a complete-game no-hitter in the opener (a 11-0 victory) with one walk and 13 strikeouts and Willer had three hits, two runs and two RBIs. In the second game (a 10-0 victory), Sapp pitched a perfect game with 13 strikeouts and Montgomery had two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Bailey Throckmorton, Audrey Vandagriff, Kylee Simmons, Prince Avenue Christian – In Prince Avenue Christian’s 1-0 victory Tuesday over Social Circle, Throckmorton pitched a complete-game four-hitter with four strikeouts, Vandagriff had a double, two walks and one run and Simmons had one hit and one RBI.
