Here's how to vote before the June 7 South Dakota primary

Absentee voting in Codington County and counties across South Dakota has begun and will continue until June 6.

That's the day before the state's primary election.

To cast a ballot early, registered voters can visit their local county auditor's office. In Codington County, that's at the courthouse at 14 First Ave. S.E. in Watertown.

People who want to vote early must take a valid photo identification card. For many, that will be their driver's license. If voters do not have a photo ID, they must be given the option to sign a personal identification affidavit and vote a regular ballot, according to information from the South Dakota Secretary of State's Office.

The deadline to register to vote and be eligible for the June 7 primary is May 23.
