Here's the Wayne County 4-H youth scholarship winners for 2022

Nine Wayne County 4-H participants will be awarded scholarships totaling $7,000 during the Wayne County Fair, which starts Saturday.

Kara McKay will be recognized as the winner of the 4-H/FFA Doyle Findley Scholarship and Christine Anfang as the winner of the 4-H/FFA Beef Committee Scholarship prior to the start of the steer auction at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Event Center.

McKay is the daughter of John and Nicole McKay of Wooster. She is a 2022 graduate of Northwestern High School and a freshman at Wilmington College, where she plans to major in animal science and biochemistry.

A member of the Buckeye Show and Grow 4-H Club, McKay served on the Junior Fair and Food and Fashion boards, helped with the Beef Committee and was a camp counselor. She exhibited swine, dairy feeder calves, pygmy goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys and market dairy steers.

In high school she was a four-year varsity letter winner in basketball and an FFA member. She took part in community service projects through FFA and AAU basketball.

Angfang is the daughter of William and Roseanne Anfang of Wooster. A 2022 graduate of Triway High School, she is attending John Carroll University, where she is majoring in political science with plans to eventually attend law school.

A 10-year 4-H member, Anfang has held a variety of offices in the Springville Cowpokes. She has been a Junior Leader officer, a member of the Junior Fair Board and 4-H Awareness Team, camp counselor and was selected as an attendant on the Wayne County Junior Fair Royal Court.

She has taken steers, photography and woodworking projects and was selected to attend the National 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus Trip, Kelly’s Island Sea Camp, Buckeye Leadership Workshop and Leadership Washington Focus.

At Triway, she was on the tennis team, played in the marching and symphonic bands for four years and was in FFA and the National Honor Society.

More Wayne County 4-H scholarship winners

Two general 4-H scholarships will be presented to Kelsie Mannasmith and Riley Stull at the start of the swine auction at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Event Center.

Mannasmith is the daughter of Michelle and Benjamin Mannasmith of Burbank. She is a 2022 graduate of Norwayne High School and attends Ohio State University/Agricultural Technical Institute to study agricultural communications and agribusiness, focusing on entrepreneurship and hospitality management.

An 11-year 4-H member, Mannasmith is a member of the Wayne County Cousins and has taken horse, swine, goat, chicken and art projects. She has served on the Junior Fair Board and been a camp counselor. She was selected to exhibit her horse at the Ohio State Fair.

Her school activities included FFA, Student Council, Student Government, soccer, track and National Honor Society. Her community service includes work with a food pantry.

Stull is the daughter of Brad and Molly Stull of Wooster. She is a 2021 Northwestern High School graduate and attends OSU/ATI with plans to transfer to OSU’s main campus to complete her degree in agribusiness.

Stull took sheep, goat, dairy cattle and swine projects as a 4-H member. She was the 2020 Wayne County Junior Fair queen and served as a Junior Leader, Junior Fair Board member and camp counselor and attended the Buckeye Leadership Workshop. Her high school activities included Student Council and FFA and four years of varsity basketball. She is a member of Congress Community Youth Group and in her spare time, she enjoys showing her animals at the state and national level and helping on the family farm.

Receiving Junior Fair Baked Goods Contest Scholarships are Halle Miller, Ashley Ragusa and Clara Zemancik. These scholarships will be presented at the start of the Junior Fair Baked Goods Auction at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, in the Event Center.

Miller is a Norwayne High School graduate and a freshman at the University of Akron, majoring in business administration. She is the daughter of Michael and Robin Miller of Creston.

A 10-year 4-H member, Miller held a variety of officers for the Canaan Country Cousins 4-H Club. She was a Junior Leader officer, counselor for 4-H and sewing camps, and served on the Junior Fair and Food and Fashion boards. She also was on the meat judging team and 4-H Awareness teams, was a state fair exhibitor and was selected to attend the Buckeye Leadership Workshop and Ohio Youth Capital Challenge and served on the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council. She won the Excellence in 4-H Award in 2019.

At Norwayne, she played varsity basketball and was an FFA and National Honor Society member. She also served on the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation and is a member of her church’s youth group.

Ragusa, daughter of Chris Ragusa, is a Wooster High School graduate. She plans to major in criminal justice at Ashland University. While at Wooster High, she was one of the first College Credit Plus students to join the university’s Criminal Justice Club. She also played basketball and golf, was a National Honor Society member, played in the band and took part in community theater.

A 10-year 4-H member, Ragusa took sewing, photography, goat and dog projects. She was an Ohio State Fair exhibitor, a member of the State Junior Fair Board and attended State Leadership Camp and Buckeye Leadership Workshop. She won the county 4-H Best of Show Award in photography and construction awards for her sewing.

Zemancik is the daughter of Joseph and Lisa Zemancik of Wooster. She is a graduate of Northwestern High School and is attending Ashland University to major in biology.

A 10-year 4-H member, she served as an officer in Cream of the Crop 4-H Club. She took sheep, market lamb and food and nutrition projects. In high school she was involved in gymnastics, cross country, band, choir, theater, ballet and was an Ohio Bird Sanctuary and Wayne County Performing Arts Council volunteer. At Smithville Brethren Church, she is in the bell choir, choir and volunteers for the children’s ministry.

Also at the Baked Goods Auction, Edward Bohner, son of Kathryn and Gerard Bohner of Medina, will receive the Dianne Hange 4-H Scholarship. He is a Cloverleaf High School graduate who plans to obtain his associate degree in medical services technology, studying to be an emergency paramedic.

An 11-year 4-H member, he is a member of the Horses R Us 4-H Club. He earned champion and showmanship awards for his dairy, goat, poultry and market and pet rabbit projects. He won a Best of Show award with an Arcs and Sparks welding project. He served on the Junior Fair Board and Wayne County Junior Fair Royal Court and helped with CARTEENS.

He has worked in community service for St. Mary School, People To People Ministries, Ida Sue School, Humane Society of Wooster and Tri-County Council Trails Association.

Additional Wayne County 4-H scholarship winners

Elizabeth Howman of West Salem will be recognized as the winner of the Wayne County 4-H/FFA Dairy Committee Scholarship at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Junior Fair Dairy Products Auction in the Coliseum.

She is the daughter of Sara Howman White and a graduate of Northwestern High School, attending OSU/ATI.

She has held a variety of offices in the Ewenique Critters 4-H Club and taken market lamb, breeding ewes, market hogs, dairy heifer and cow projects. She is a member of the Livestock Judging Team and the state 4-H Dairy Judging Team and was awarded Outstanding Dairy Exhibit for three years.

In high school, she was a National Honor Society and FFA member and played varsity basketball. She is a member of her church’s youth group.

Scholarship winners were chosen based on 4-H experience, activities outside of 4-H and plans for success, including scholastic average.
