SOUTH VERMILLION 2, EDGEWOOD 1: Mustangs (0-7) get on the board in the second half, but fall on the road.

VINCENNES RIVET 4, LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 2: Lions (2-2) fall at home. Isaiah Hamilton scored one goal, assisted by Will Wickstrom, Nathanael Huck scored the other goal on a free kick.

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 3, FLOYD CENTRAL 2: Goals by CJ Santiago, Etienne Leykin and Sebastain Brena-Ochoa let Panthers (7-0-2) escape in second half from a 1-1 tie. Owen Caldwell had three saves.

Volleyball

LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 3, MADISON CHRISTIAN 0: Lighthouse Christian is now 5-1 over its last six after pulling out a 25-21, 25-23, 25-16 win. Emilee Spurlock had 10 kills and three aces and Marissa Webb had 10 kills and three blocks to lead the Lions (7-6). Charlotte Wiser fired three aces, as did Lizzie Billingsley, who had 10 digs, Jane Holdeman had 25 assists and eight kills and Victoria Mann eight kills, seven digs and five aces.

Girls' golf

BLOOMINGTON NORTH INVITATIONAL: Bloomington North shot a 390 and won a fifth-score tiebreaker with Martinsville for ninth. Edgewood had a 406 for 12th out of 15 teams. North was led by Darian Lafferty with an 85, finding some trouble on the back nine after opening with a 39. Mallory Barrow 97, Ivy Yoder 99, Anna Toohill 109, LIbby Rice 112. For Edgewood, Candace Rosemeier had a 91, Jaylyn Robinson 99, Amara Hanson 105, Winnie Sater 111, Boston Chambers 114.

No. 3 Center Grove won with a 310 with Columbus North a distant second at 334 and Westfield's B Team third at 338. Columbus North's Ava Bunker won by nine strokes! with a 66, which makes her the obvious favorite at the North Sectional on Sept. 19.

Boys' tennis

EDGEWOOD 4, BROWN COUNTY 1: Mustangs get wins from Quinn Norris (6-0, 6-2) and Andrew Paul (forfeit) at 2 and 3 singles while Zeke and Dane Weisner roll 6-0, 6-1 at 1 doubles and Carter Cheaney and Dannie Chandler win 6-0, 6-3 at 2 doubles.

JASPER INVITATIONAL: Bloomington North tied with Castle for third despite not having usual No. 1 Nick Shirley. Both doubles squads grabbed second place as at No. 1, Casey McIntyre and Brady Murphy pulled out a 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 win in the semifinals over Jeffersonville to make the final, falling to a duo from Jasper, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 2, Connor O'Guinn and Seth Force outlasted Bloomington South's Nicky Walker and Luka Jovanovic, 7-6, 6-2 in their opener, rolled in the semi and lost to Jasper in the final, 7-6, 6-2. At singles, Connor Shinn filled in and beat Ty Kalb of Northeast Dubois in his opener, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 before falling to players from Jasper and Castle. At 2 singles, Estaban Crespo upset Reece Lambert of No. 14 Jasper, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 but lost tough matches to foes from Castle (6-2, 5-7, 6-2) and Silver Creek (6-3, 6-4). Paul Macy was 0-3 at 3 singles.

No. 16 North is at No. 25 Loogootee on Tuesday and No. 17 South takes on No. 6 Columbus North at home Wednesday.

Claire Beretta had four aces, 23 assists and eight digs for LCA, while Lizzie Billingsley had three aces and 10 digs; Ava Fritz had 11 digs; Jane Holdeman four aces; Victoria Mann two aces, seven digs, nine kills; Emilee Spurlock 12 kills and Charlotte Wiser had four aces and nine kills.

Thursday, Sept. 8

Volleyball

EDGEWOOD 3, OWEN VALLEY 0: Mustangs ran win streak to six by taking care of its WIC rival, 25-22, 25-10, 25-17. Kaiden Harrington led the Mustangs (15-3, 3-1) with 15 kills and 2 aces. Adia May had 31 assists; Gracie Farmer had seven kills, three blocks and five aces; Olivia Edgeman had seven kills and Kendal Ash had three aces.

Boys' soccer

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 3, TERRE HAUTE SOUTH 0: Panthers (7-0-2, 2-0) took a 2-0 lead by halftime and posted their third shutout of the season in a Conference Indiana victory.

Wednesday, Sept. 7

Girls' soccer

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 5, TERRE HAUTE SOUTH 0: Freshman Val Bunde had a pair of goals as the Panthers (6-1-1, 2-0 CI) had no problems picking up another conference win. Helena Cutshall, Katherine Lacy and Izzy Sweet had the other goals, with assists coming from Zoe Kunzman, Nora Doyle and Annalise Coyne.

TERRE HAUTE NORTH 1, BLOOMINGTON NORTH 0: Terre Haute North (5-1-2, 1-1 CI) made a first half goal stand up. Carah McKinney had the shutout in net for the Patriots. The Cougars (4-3, 1-1) have two big CI home matches next week vs. Columbus North (Monday) and Bloomington South (Wednesday).

EDGEWOOD 1, OWEN VALLEY 0: The Mustangs (2-4, 2-2) knocked off their rivals in Western Indiana Conference play as Emma Edwards finally broke the tie with 9:15 left in the second half on a rebound off the crossbar.

Boys' soccer

OWEN VALLEY 4, EDGEWOOD 2: Owen Valley took a 3-1 lead by halftime and held on in the WIC rivalry match. Andres Medina's goal got the Mustangs (0-6, 0-2 WIC) within 3-2 but the Patriots scored late to seal the victory.

Girls' golf

EDGEWOOD 206, GREENCASTLE 236: At Cascades Golf Course, Candace Rosemeier led the Mustangs with a 45, while Winnie Sater added 50, Amara Hanson had a 53 and Boston Chambers a 58.

CENTER GROVE 151, BLOOMINGTON NORTH 202: The third-ranked Trojans were just too much at Hickory Stick, with six players shooting under 40, led by two 37s.

Tuesday, Sept. 6

Girls' golf

EDGEWOOD 204, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 211: Candace Rosemeier had a 47 and Jaylyn Robinson a 49 to lead Edgewood to a rare girls' golf win over South on Cascades' Pine nine. Amara Hanson had a 51 and Ashton Sessions a 57 to round out the Mustangs' effort. South's Melanie Southern earned medalist honors with a 40, while Daphne Southern (55), Paige Hull (57) and Macy Hays (59) also figured in the scoring for the Panthers, who were without Avery Beck.

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 3, TERRE HAUTE NORTH 0: Cougars (7-4) push CI mark to 2-1 with a hard-fought 25-23, 26-24, 25-21 win over the Patriots.

EDGEWOOD 3, EASTERN GREENE 0: Edgewood (14-3) picks up a road win.

LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 3, MARTINSVILLE TABERNACLE 0: Lions stay on a win streak with a 25-23, 25-23, 25-13 win. Claire Beretta fired seven aces and had 21 assists for LCA (5-6). Emilee Spurlock had nine kills and Victoria Mann had six while Charlotte Mann had seven kills and four aces.

TERRE HAUTE SOUTH 3, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 1: Braves (11-1, 3-0) pull out CI win, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 25-12, to stay on top of league. Cadence Ast had 15 kills for Panthers (4-9, 1-2) and Raine Rolen nine to go with four blocks. Riley Walker had 19 digs.

Cross country

LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN AT BLOOMFIELD INVITATIONAL: Girls had just two runners on a humid evening but they both placed well as sophomore Zoe Crites was third (25:58.6) and Madeline Esslinger was fourth (25:58.6). Boys are also had just two runners with Avery Lueck third (20:17.8) and Keaton Jones 24th (29:36.5) after competing in a downpour.

Boys' soccer

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 2, FRANKLIN 2: A PK awarded with just 40 seconds left let the Grizzly Cubs escape with a tie. CJ Santiago had his 10th goal of the season for the Panthers (6-0-2), with Joe Degiorgio also scoring and Sebastian Brena-Ochoa contributing two assists. "This was a tough one," South coach Corbin Calvert said. "My message to the boys at half was that this was a good old fashion dog fight. It wasn't pretty soccer, but it was by far the best our entire team has played defensively all year."

LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 5, MARTINSVILLE TABERNACLE 1: Nathanael Huck had four goals to power the Lions (2-1), while Sean Flynn had two assists. Will Wickstrom had the other goal.
