Here's what's new in Northwestern Local Schools for the 2022-'23 school year

Start date: Aug. 23 for grades 1-12, kindergartners will stagger start days
New faces:
Steven Rowe - elementary school, assistant principal
Erin Leonhardt - elementary school, STEM preschool teacher
Kelsey Stitt - elementary school, STEM kindergarten teacher
Jacob Besancon - elementary school, fourth-grade teacher
Terri Bartholomew - elementary school, evening custodian
Tiffany VanZile - elementary school, paraprofessional for grades 3-4
Chelsi Lingle - elementary school, paraprofessional for grades 3-4
Sara Wakefield - middle school, eighth-grade math and algebra
Alden Coffman - middle school, building sub
Joseph Cardinal - middle and high school; computer, history, and financial literacy teacher, head football coach at high school
New equipment/programs: Chromebooks are continuously being added to what is already available to students, High School Principal Randall Hafner wrote in an email. All three schools will be integrating a new literacy program this year.
New building/renovations: The middle and high school parking lots were each repaved as well as the high school track. Middle School Principal Rachel Beun wrote in an email that her building had some roof repairs and the gym floor will need to be replaced due to water damage.
Back-to-school events:
Middle school open house - Aug. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m.
High school freshman/new student orientation - Aug. 18 at noon and again at 7 p.m.
High school open house - Aug. 19 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
High school schedule pickups: 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Aug. 18 and 19; 10:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Aug. 22.
