Here's where Amazon is hiring ahead of the holiday season

Ahead of the holiday shopping season, Amazon aims to hire 2,000 employees in Delaware.

The e-commerce giant is accepting applications for seasonal, part-time and full-time work at all seven of its Delaware facilities. Amazon's entry-level roles typically involve picking, packing and shipping products.

Sam Fisher, an Amazon spokesperson, said starting pay rates vary by site, but all Wilmington-area positions start above $16 per hour. New hires in some locations, he said, can receive a sign-on bonus between $1,000 and $3,000.

Fisher said the 2,000 Delaware employees will be a mixture of part- and full-time workers, but declined to provide a specific breakdown.

BOOMING INDUSTRY: Delaware has become a prime destination for warehouse development. Here's what's coming next.

Amazon currently employs about 7,500 people in the state. It's Delaware's fourth-largest employer, behind only JPMorgan Chase, ChristianaCare and the state itself.

In the past two years, Amazon has opened four facilities in Delaware. With 3,000 employees as of March, Amazon's mega-warehouse at the former GM site on Boxwood Road near Newport is its largest in the state and among its largest in the country. Amazon also opened a large warehouse off Route 13 near New Castle and smaller delivery stations next to the mega-warehouse on Boxwood Road and on Dulaney Street in Seaford.

Amazon logos have been affixed to a warehouse in the Delaware Logistics Park near Delaware City off Route 7 for several months. An Amazon spokesperson last month declined to comment on the warehouse beyond saying that it's not operational.

Amazon has canceled, closed or put on hold more than 40 facilities across the country, according to supply chain consulting firm MWPVL, as the pandemic has receded.
